1) Back To The Future (Perfect comedy, time travel, and well-thought-out)
2) Star Wars (The original trilogy)
3) Serenity (We need more in the series...)
4) Unbreakable (Under-appreciated film from the maker of The Sixth Sense)
5) 13 Going On 30 (80's References and Jennifer Garner)
I wouldn't be able to name top 5... that is difficult.
I agree with the Serenity comment. FireFly isn't enough (and I haven't finished watching all of firefly yet). Damn good movie and series!
Back to the Future is a fun trilogy... but does not make it anywhere near the top of my list. If you like Bob Gale's movies though and are looking for something just as funny and thought out (but lacking time travel... but does have a time travel philosophy to it) check out "Interstate 60". Gary Oldman as a leprichan/indian who grants wishes! The Pink Power Ranger who sleeps with everyone she meets hunting for the 'perfect fuck'! Christopher Lloyd as the devil... what more are you asking for!?
Star Wars really doesn't cut it for me as it goes for Sci-Fi (I'm gonna catch some flack for that one). I don't know exactly what it is... but it's just lacking something. Sci-Fi is one of my favourite genres to watch or play (especially cyber punk!!!!) and I've come across movies in the genre I can watch more times then StarWars.
i.e.:
Alien 1 and 3 - screw the second and the fourth one gets boring after the 3rd time seeing it... though I still love Jean Pierre Jeunet! Delicatessen baby!!!!
Serenity - I just saw this recently and started the Firefly series... and really, this climbed right up my list before the movie was even over. Great flick for the Sci-Fi genre.
BladeRunner - duh... Cyber-Punk, Cyborgs, Tortouses in the desert... oh yeah and umbrellas with neon lights attatched to them; so cool.
Pitch Black/Chronicles of Riddick - yes... I said it... I like these two movies so shut up. They really fun and I wish they'd do some more with the series (the anime done by the Aeon Flux guy wasn't enough for me).
I'm also really into Apocolyptic and Post Apocolyptic films...
Delicatessen - Amazing film... watch it. Post War France in some far out of reach little apartment building ran by a butcher who highers on super's (fix it up guys) as labor for a couple weeks and then murders them and sells the meat to his tenants.
Dr. Strangelove - if you haven't seen it... see it. You haven't heard of it... this is Kubrick's best film ever (screw 2001 Space Odyssey and Clockwork Orange... they can't hold a candle to this ingenious commentary on the cold war starring Peter Sellers THREE times! General Jack D. Ripper is totally insane!
Postman - a very underappreciated film. I don't get what people have against this movie or any of his movies... Waterworld is just damn fun... so fuck you.
Other films I love include
Legend - The Tangerine Dream soundtrack is awesome and seeing Tim Curry in that amazing costume of the Lord of Darkness is down right amazing especially for its era. And as you can tell from listing 3 Ridley Scott films... yes I love Ridley Scott.
Jacob's Ladder - terrifying film about afterlife. Watch it now.
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind - wow... amazing.
and of course there is more... but I won't bore you.
Oh jeez, I dunno. The Big Lebowski, Raising Arizona, Terminator 2, The Crow, Clerks.
Noteworthy: Sling Blade, Shawshank Redemption, Fight Club, Punch Drunk Love, True Romance, Mortal Kombat (I'm serious. I watched it like 40 times back then.)

I agree with all of those... even the Mortal Kombat thing I regret to admit.

Thanks. I am not much of a movie person, because I try to keep Hollywood out of my life as much as possible, so I only watch like 1 per month. But I like to think I have some good taste. Too bad my friends don't like most of these movies, and prefer to just watch whatever teenage slapstick, softcore porn, drunken party type flick that comes out on any given week.
5. Dr. Strangelove ( Heil mein Fuehrer!!! ) / Surfer Nazis must die ( hier wird nur mit erlaubnis des fuehrers gesurft! ) / six-string-samurai ( If you were me, you'd be good-lookin' ) / wild zero ( lock`n`loll! )
i hope the quotes from the movies above won`t be seen from the wrong side... just in case...

I didn't list any anime... for different reasons though. What did you think of the newest Ghost in the Shell? I was rather upset by it; not bad, but it could of been so much better.
