I bought it for 60 bucks on preorder and six months later, it went down to 50, then a year later it went down to 30 and then now some places sell it for 20 dollars. I am pissed because I didn't even finished the game cuz I got bored after a couple of days. I could have just waited a year latger and buy it and it wouldn't make a difference in my enjoyment.
I bought the collector's edition of FFXII for $30, and since I quit playing 25 hours in, it seems like a good buy. Heck, it's only $18 used at gamestop. But you can consider than FFVII has sold millions of copies, and could be bought for $20 new once upon a time. Now, used copies can go from $50 all the way up to $90 or more.

I tend to agree with philipofmacedon, as far as being hesitant on collecting for the sake of collecting. I try to buy games that I will actually play, but I still have a few copies of PS2 games still in their shrink wrap - nothing worth over $25, fortunately. Just games that I haven't gotten to.

(Un)fortunately, I am a huge fan of the Shin Megami Tensei series, and I've yet to buy the first Persona or Digital Devil Saga volume 1. Those two games could easily cost me over $200 in decent condition - not even mint. It makes me glad that the rest of my PS2 collection is composed of games like Okami and Odin Sphere, or SNK collections.

Okami is going to be re-released this spring. so I dont think its gonna go up in value to much.

RackGaki:

The first persona on PS1 is kinda weird cuz of the 3-D dungeon. However, Persona 2 is really really good and there was a reprint so it isn't too expensive to buy. I just wish they do a collection of some sort and get the second part of Persona 2 over here. (Come on Atlus) DDS is okay, but I thought I was kinda boring. I thought those two games weren't that expensive when bought used. If you are going for the complete collector set with soundtrack, then of course that will be expensive.

I don't know if it is okay to talk about copied games here or if it is against the rules. Anyway, if you have a PS1 or PS2 that can play copied games, then I can make copies for you if you just want to play them. Personally, I only play copied versions when I have the original.

Just the way I like it. I bought the games to play them, not look at them. The three copies of Persona 3 I sold on eBay, that's a different story.

I just think that is extremely silly, telling people what game to collect to make money off of. I guess combining gaming and making money together can double your fun.

Personally, I don't buy games for an "investment" unless I see a prospect on the clearance shelf or something.
I have only two games that are still sealed: A KOF double-pack for the XBox (I don't own an XBox) and Killer-7 for the Cube (not really my type of game). I got them both for just a few dollars each on clearance, so I figured "what the heck". In the past, I've bought some nice games like FF: Mark of the Wolves for the Dreamcast on clearance at Best Buy a while back, but of course, I couldn't resist opening that one immediately. I could still make a nice profit on it, but not as much as if it was sealed. Looking back, I should have bought all the ones they had on sale for $10 or whatever it was :)

But I wouldn't pay $40 or $50 for a game hoping it to increase.

HA HA HA. I have a sealed copy of Killer 7 for PS2. Bought it for 5 dollars and haven't played it because it wasn't my kind of game as well.

You would be very lucky for a game to increase in value these days. I see something a good investment if it doesn't lose value. Like my Shenmue 2 I bought that brand new on day of release for £30 and it's still worth that much now. (more if I sell it on Ebay.com).

If you expect something to increase then chances are it won't. The rare games of last gen will be the ones that nobody thought to buy or 'invest' in. They will crop up in ten or 15 years time.

Thanks for the link racketboy. The article is actually built on the same premise as to why I started the thread, theirs is just more organized and researched, good to know. I should probably browse some of the other articles they have as well.
