Soul Eater was one of the very few shows I couldn't stomach and dropped after a few episodes, I thought the voice actors were exceptionally bad as well... which is something I never really think much about but it stuck out way too much there.

As for Claymore, the anime is solid until the last arc when they utterly derived from the manga material and completely messed things up, so bad they'd practically have to reboot the show if they ever made another season or whatever (seems unlikely anyways). Overall, that final arc was about 10x better in the manga, and I'm usually an anime person first... but wow.

I'm gonna take a wild guess here and assume that they started the anime before the manga was finished and had to make up the rest of the story by pulling it out of their ass, right?

Why do so many anime based on manga do this shit? Would it KILL studios to wait for the manga to finish its main story run before turning it into a series, or at the very least, could they get the actual WRITER to fill them in on what he/she plans to do with the story?

I'm pretty clueless as to what really happened, but yeah. Either that or they wanted to come up with a silly anime only ending and it failed hard. It's also pretty sad considering how the story and everything got pretty amazing in the manga after what the anime covered.

I wouldn't be surprised if they started it up way too early though. Claymore is a monthly manga (really shows in the art and the chapters can be like 40 pages, as compared to ~20 for most shounen jump stuff or whatever), so it'll be going on for a long time I'm sure... they should have just given it a few more years before they animated it.

I really hope that they do animate the later content of claymore. It's one of my favorite mangas.

I like the concept of soul eater more than the show itself.

I agree. Though I will admit that there are times when studios veer off of the original source material and the story actually ends up being pretty good. The original run of Fullmetal Alchemist comes to mind. It took off in its own direction pretty quickly and still managed to be enjoyable, engaging and even thought provoking (At least I thought it was). Granted, they started over from scratch and pretty much followed the manga to the letter with Brotherhood, so maybe my point is moot.

But I think that it proves that studios CAN deviate from the source material and still come out with a great product. The problem is that they need to pick better writers who understand the characters, themes and mood of the story if they're going to try to pull it off. Unfortunately they usually fail miserably at that, thus driving home our hatred for deviating story-lines.

I hear terrible stories about Naruto/Bleach filler stuff, I don't keep up with them personally... I can say though so far I think some filler lends itself pretty well to One Piece and Fairy Tail. I'd say Fairy Tail moreso since the series is kind of more comical all around, there's been a lot of random episodes that I'm sure are pure filler, but the huge cast of awesome characters are always utilized well and not out of character, so it's just more fun episodes and stuff.

What I do hate is random filler placement though, which happened once or twice in One Piece. You're in the middle of some huge insane arc and things are getting nuts, and then suddenly they have a few utterly random episodes to celebrate some anniversary or the end of the year or something, that doesn't tie into the main arc going on at all. Terrible! This stuff I can't stomach and usually skip.

I can't speak for Naruto or One Piece, but I can definitely agree with Bleach. I just recently started watching it a couple months ago on Cartoon Network (Truth be told, I like watching mindless battles every once in a while) and I think they've pulled the "random filler" trick twice now. And that's what? Twice in about 16-20 episodes. That's just stupid. They'll be getting set up for another "epic" battle and "BAM!", random 2-3 episode filler arc. It's just irritating.

Admittedly, it'd be a little different if they just switched to a different group of characters for an episode or two, but their arcs just pretend like the other story arc isn't even happening. Just a random moment in an unknown timeframe. It makes no since. But I guess that goes with the territory when you watch some sort of extended shōnen adaptation. :?

I finished FLCL today. I'm currently watching Hetalia: Axis Powers and some other show whose name currently escapes me.

I watched the whole first season of Hetalia in one sitting. I don't know why but something about the world through another cultures art style fascinated me.

It was okay. Definitely a bit over-cutesy animation for my tastes but it was pretty hilarious.

FLCL is good too. I was super disappointed when I realized it was only six episodes, but oh well.

I'm currently watching Brotherhood via Adult Swim. I wish they would play more Anime on the weekends - or at least make it earlier. 80% of the time it's just Aqua Teen and Robot Chicken - which are great - but I not something I would watch every single night in a row. I miss the days when anime was easy to watch on Cartoon Network. Oh well, now we have the internet. :D

Oh! I remember what it was.

Eden of the East is the other show I'm watching. It's pretty good so far.
