The Mall in Earthbound. Enemies are hideously over-leveled and come to you in swarms, and you're short your best multi-enemy attacker. Really no way to beat it except run through again and again until you finally somehow survive or get through without enemies noticing. Kind of a shame since Moonside and the Montoli Building aren't that bad.

I can't call it a favorite game as I haven't even finished it yet, but there's a part of Infamous real early on that has been bugging me ever since I played it. This ridiculous part of the story where you and some refugees try to escape the city. You have to get past this area guarded by weapon toting guards and guards in machine gun turrets. Realistically, there's no way CIVILIANS would get past this area alive. They're not superheroes like the character I'm playing as. Yet, you can sit back and watch them get gunned down by turrets and just get back up over and over again. However, clear the area and a cutscene plays out where they pass a gate revealing more guys in turrets. However, because it's a cutscene, now the turrets ACTUALLY KILL THEM.

Moments like these just annoy the hell out of me. Where reality only exists in cutscenes, but not outside of them, but it's my usual complaint with the shooter genre and I didn't realize that so much of Imfamous's combat would be just that, a generic third person shooter. Outside of combat, it's just a generic sandbox game with the usual mission objectives you see in ALL sandbox games. Kind of dissapointing

Also annoying is the lack of creativity in how you can actually use your superpowers, which amount to little more than variations on shooter gameplay. Still, the game was free so can't complain too much

Reality only existing in the cutscenes has always bugged me too. It's like how in cheesy action movies, the hero's only allowed to be hurt by the big villain towards the end, not by his minions.

I think he was talking about Tactical RPGs - and yeah, a lot of tactical RPGs have multiple endings. Hell, I'm pretty sure every NIS TRPG has multiple endings.
Even turn based rpgs have multiple endings, or at least bonus bosses. Chrono games, gust games, smt games, all of these offer at least something for a 2nd playthrough.

Im also the kind of person that has played most of the final fantasy games at least twice, and 7 ive played through 9 timrs

For example, that part you just mentioned, I honestly found to be an intense way to start the story up. I didn't even notice civilians getting mowed down and getting back up because I was too focused on all the action that was directly effecting me. But, I spent about $35 on the game, so maybe I was glossing over the negatives.

Although I do admit, I hate how they repeated a lot of the mission types in the game. Those 'Follow this guy' and 'Take out the surveillance equipment' missions were friggin' annoying as all hell.

That is very true. Part of the reason people used to platy the heck out of cruddy games for systems like N64 and Genesis, when they bought a game for $50-$80, they had better enjoy it. They forced themselves to like it. Whereas one has nothing at stake when the game is free, so he'll be more willing to criticize.

I think that's an interesting thing you pointed out there. You were so drawn into the task of fighting the guards, you didn't noticed what was going on around you. I think that's what the designers count on and it's kind of cheat. See I envy you in a way, as I'm not able to get so lost in the moment that I become oblivious to what is happening around me. I think it's why I don't enjoy some games as much as other people do. I see some civilians stupidly running into the line of fire and getting mowed down with no real consequence and that INSTANTLY kills the moment for me. Immersion lost, intensity of moment flushed down the toilet. I want to FEEL that these people are in mortal danger and that I'm the only chance they have at survival.

If the designers were a little smarter, they could have at least had the civilians take cover so you don't actually see them getting shot repeatedly by gun turrets without sustaining any injuries or death. At least HIDE how unrealistic your game is. It annoys me that a lot of designers can't even put forth the effort to do that. Plus, I would have appreciated seeing people be smart enough to hang back and let the super hero get to work. Maybe they could have showed me just one or two people run out into the line of fire, because it's inevitable that there will be a few idiots in any group of people, then show me those people ACTUALLY GET KILLED to give me a sense of the steaks.

With those few suggestions I could have enjoyed that sequence so much more

You're right about how annoying it is that they repeat missions objectives. One of the things I liked with the Sly Cooper games that Sucker Punch did before Infamous is that there was a lot of variety in mission objectives and a lot of surprises. Infamous just seems to be going along with the sandbox games 101 book and doing a lot of stuff you've seen before and repeating it.

I'm trying to be like Ack though, where I can look at a game and not love it, but still try and find some things that are good about it. I will say that Infamous has one of the best intros in gaming. The way that calm, peaceful city you see at the title screen erupts into armageddon the moment you hit the start button immediately caught my attention and pulled me into the game. There is also an escort mission in Infamous that I enjoyed because it wasn't the usual, "protect this wimp" escort mission. Instead, you escort a bunch of criminals and the mission is all about keeping them in line by hurting them if they try to attack you or escape. That was pretty creative and I liked it
