Thinking about buying a Neo Geo MVS cab

Post by Amplibax »

I've been looking at getting a Neo Geo cab or an AES for a while now and finally one popped up on a local classifieds site. It's a 2 slot and it comes with one game World Heroes 2. The initial asking price was $600 which I know is way too high. The seller also mentioned on the ad that the second player controls don't work perfect which I'm sure has gotta bring down the cost. I would drive right over to see it, but it's about 45 minutes away so I want to make sure I'm going to be getting it and at a fair price.

Here's a couple pics:

I initially told him that the most I would pay would be around $300 and the seller responded to me and told me that he would take $450 which still seems a bit high. What do you guys think I should pay for this max? Assuming everything works great other than the second player controls. Also does anyone know how much a 2 slot cab weighs approximately? I'll need to figure out how many people I need to bring with me if I do get it.

If player 2 doesn't work well then the most I would ever pay is $150 - 200, because it is going to cost money to fix it up anyways. Also be sure to check the tube for any burn in.

$250 would be the tippy top for that particular cab. Lifehacker had a great article today about propositioning folks on craigslist from multiple email addresses, to discourage a bidder.

Seriously, this person is way out of line with their pricing, and needs to be brought back down to earth.

some guy on here wanted to trade his 6 slot for a 4 or 2. also you can build a custom one for way less than $450.

That's a conversion, not an original cab. Assuming the monitor has no issues, I'd pay no more than $250.

Hmm. I was thinking that it might have been a conversion cab, but I wasn't completely sure... frig. I already sent him an email offering $400. I wonder how I can position a lower price to him now... cause I really do want it and Neo Geo machines don't pop up like ever around here.

Edit:

The guy is now saying that it's not a conversion, but it's painted. Could that possibly be true? The cab doesn't have the shape of most Neo Geo Machines I have seen.

I would say it's a conversion but I cannot 100%. The marquee seems to have the single slot for the mini marquee but those start buttons are wrong...and no mem card/head phone jacks? The fact that it's a 2-slot MVS but not a two slot cab (where is the select button to choose carts???). I say it was a 1-slot kit that was used to convert whatever cab and later was replaced with a 2-slot. The owner my be thinking that HE never converted it...

I will not comment on the price I'd pay, since that seems to be moot now, but it's high IMO.

The reason I was think that it was a conversion from a completely different arcade cab was because of the back. I've never seen a Neo Geo with a flat back like this one. Then again I'm not exactly an expert on arcade cabs.

You live in the same location as me  So weird hahahahaha, small world! I was trying to buy this too and I'm under the assumption it's a conversion. I offered 350$ awhile back but he wouldn't take it. It's hard to price things around here because they are so scarce.

Haha wow, nice. Well I had him down to $450 so I'm sure he would be it to you for that. I imagine he would take like $400 at this point. I noticed he lowered the asking price from $600 to $500 on the ad so at least he doesn't think he's gonna get $600 for it still  It's a small world though!
