Least favorite parts of your favorite games

Ah, that stage. Yeah, I usually just blitz the hell out of Gafgaron and the Time Mages immediately.

True, though what I especially think of there is the eventual jump to the alien world.Ack wrote: Admittedly though that formula was reversed in Half-Life, with the human opponents showing up after the aliens, before eventually being replaced by tougher aliens.

Re: Least favorite parts of your favorite games
I hate being forced into boss fights you can't win in rpgs. It's so pointless. If you want to show me how badass a character is, give me a cutscene. Don't waste my time with gameplay that has no point.
I also hate when a game throws you into fights like that with the same enemy multiple times, and then expects you to actually like that character when they join your party later in the game. Oh hey, welcome to the team, thanks for kicking our ass so many times. That's why I hated Beatrix in Final Fantasy 9. It amazes sometimes how stupid the people who make our games can be. That's not how you endear a character to players.

Wait, what? Beatrix isn't a permanent character? Thats like saying it was stupid for cloud to flash back to when he was fighting along side sephiroth.Gamerforlife wrote:I hate being forced into boss fights you can't win in rpgs. It's so pointless. Did you hate Steiner? Because you fought him more times than Beatrix in a shorter amount of time, and he is a permanent team member. That seems like a much better example for what you are saying.
As for saying Square is stupid for not being able to endear characters, IMO that is a completely false and ridiculous statement. Some of my favorite characters of all time have come from square.

It is as you say.Ack wrote:What weapons were you using in Silent Hill 3? The katana is the most powerful of the faster weapons, and before that you stick with the metal pipe and only use guns on bosses. Think of the maul and the taser as joke weapons, along with the gold and silver pipes later on.
I normally stick with the pipe and then katana. You know the taser seemed to work all right on the "cancer" enemy. The maul is useless and the gold/silver pipes I think do the same amount of damage as the regular pipe. Naturally there're joke weapons anyway due to the fact that you get them from a fairy.
I don't know. For me, combat is where SH 3 falls short. SH 1, 2, and 4 seemed all right though. 4 was pretty innovative with its combat when I think about it.
Re: Least favorite parts of your favorite games
Actually the taser happens to be the most powerful of the melee weapons, but it's range is practically nonexistent. I tend to use it on the final boss, but that's it. And you're right, the gold and silver pipes are purely cosmetic changes, they're exactly the same as the original pipe. But Silent Hill games were never truly about fighting, they're more about running away. And Silent Hill 3 is still better about it than games like Rule of Rose, or games like Haunting Ground, where you don't actually fight at all.
I think I have issue agreeing with you because I've played games where the combat was worse. Plus I used to speedrun Silent Hill 3, so I'm pretty biased about it. You're probably right about the combat.

I should try SH 3 without fighting anything but bosses sometime.
And maybe SH 2.
And maybe SH 2.

Re: Least favorite parts of your favorite games
The Temple of the Ocean King in phantom hourglass. Not only was it repetitive, but I made the mistake of not finishing the game before starting another game( something I do a lot with handheld games). This was also compounded by the fact that i was tired of plYing this "level" over and over.
So by the time I got back to the game I found myself at that temple again. But which time was it? What was I supposed to do? Where am I? Who are you?!?!?!!? Ugh.
Punishment for my lack follow thru? Perhaps, but frustraiting nonetheless. I just had to replay the game from the beginning. Luckily it's a great game otherwise so not that big a deal, but that chunk of the game still stands out as something I could have done with less of.
