Heh, almost surprised some geekier parody musician hasn't thought of that already.

I'd probably say "that x infinite," but that's pretty much 95% of the genre. These days for me, it'd be even considering touching a game in the genre.

It's impossible for him to do Night Sword when he's not holding a sword, and he'll have next to nothing in terms of hit points and defense.
 ...mind ....blown.
Even if one had the interest to play this, how were they supposed to know something like that? You'd have to be looking at a guide before you even start playing, or recognize it on a 2nd playthrough, and well, really, is that game worth playing a 2nd time?

Some people actually like to play through games they like multiple times, even RPGS.

Weird, right? I know, it boggles the mind.

Weapons in Silent Hill 3 are worthless. That's my least favorite thing about it. You get like 5 or 6 melee weapons, 2 or 3 guns, and you're still ill-equipped to handle fighting more than one monster at a time. And sometimes fighting just one monster is a gamble.

Some might say that that makes the game more realistic and really gives the player a sense of fear. All right, I can accept that. However, just don't give me any weapons. I think I've gone through the game and killed maybe less than five or six regular enemies and I'm sure I could go through it killing only the bosses.

I love Silent Hill 3 but it really isn't that much fun walking around with an entire arsenal of weapons and not being able to use them... :|

What weapons were you using in Silent Hill 3? The katana is the most powerful of the faster weapons, and before that you stick with the metal pipe and only use guns on bosses. Think of the maul and the taser as joke weapons, along with the gold and silver pipes later on.

I don't remember the weapons in Silent Hill 3 being any worse than the norm.

Alright, sorry if it sounded condescending, but it was one of the duller experiences I forced myself to finish. That and the genre really doesn't lend itself to multiple playthroughs.

Having aliens/mutants/monsters/etc turn into the primary antagonists after having established (usually) more tactical combat against humans.

See: Half-Life, Far Cry, Crysis, Uncharted, etc.

Escort missions and hold the point. I really hate Escort missions when the target is squishy - ie a Little Sister. Hold the point I tolerate, I just get upset when after you do it, there is an arbitrary "one more time" wave that comes. Frontlines Fuel of War was really bad about that.

Admittedly though that formula was reversed in Half-Life, with the human opponents showing up after the aliens, before eventually being replaced by tougher aliens.

I actually enjoyed the game, so I played through it a few times trying different strategies in different battles. Eventually I figured out what I felt to be the best way and haven't played it since. The Gafgarion trick though I actually figured out after losing that fight the first time. I looked at his equipment as he was beating me and started wondering about it, so on my reload I gave disarming him a shot and discovered it worked.

Sideroller wrote:Final Fantasy Tactics when you have to fight Gafgarion and 9 other enemies to your measly 5. His freaking Night Sword move is just brutal.

That and the battle with Wiegraf (this time with Lightening Stab to piss you off). Those are probably the two toughest battles in the game, but then again a lot of the earlier battles are harder it seems.
Do you mean the first fight with Gafgarion, when he turns on you? There's actually a trick to making that fight considerably easier. No, actually I know that trick (plus you get Delita to help you and he's pretty much a beast). It's the one when you have to save Ovelia from being executed but it's an ambush. And you have to deal with those damn time mages. Blah. There's only one place to grind on the map during that part too. Usually I just train a Ninja so he can take out Gafgarion before he uses Night Sword.
