It's not incorrect though. Maybe not everyone has the same reasons I do for seeing it as the PSX, but I've got a stack of about 30 magazines with "PSX" plastered across the cover. I'm aware PSX was the original codename. That's where the magazines got it from.irixith wrote:This is incorrect. It has absolutely nothing to do with gaming mags. This is why there's so much confusion on the subject, because people keep posting what they think, rather than the facts!
Why is PS1 sometimes refereed to as a PSX?

You could add that to Wiki. "Experimental" is mentioned in note 9 there. An update of the Source would help, your source link is dead on the other thread.irixith wrote:You're welcome! I wish I could sticky it somewhere on the internet, as I see it asked an awful lot. :pCurlypaul wrote:I read it - thanks for the clarification.irixith wrote: http://www.racketboy.com/forum/viewtopi ... 24#p300324
Even though it appears no-one else in that thread read my post. :p

Soupnazi says no soup for anyone using the abbreviation psx.
(Yes I know this joke came out of 1992 and yes that´s most striking thing about this post; that that alias survived the millenium)

Re: Why is PS1 sometimes refereed to as a PSX?
I think I remember reading an interview in the late 90's with some CEO at Sony who said that they came up with the PSX abbreviation to annoy Inazuma.
Re: Why is PS1 sometimes refereed to as a PSX?
One of my instructors in college had lead teams to develop for the Jaguar and the original Playstation before going into visual effects. He said they called it the PSX because they wanted to reference Generation X and that most everyone he knew in the industry also referred to it as the PSX at the time.
