I never understood this, what does the x mean? Was it just to be cool and edgy like everything else that incorporates an x?
Now it makes sense to me that people would not refer to the playstation as a "ps1" in 1996 since there was no conception of a "ps2" yet. Was the X added because it looked dumb to abbreviate it as a "ps"?
Why is PS1 sometimes refereed to as a PSX?

Gaming mags from the 90's are largely to blame. It became a common convention to have 3 character names for each platform back in the 32 bit days. PSX, N64, SAT, XBX, GCN, ect.
The Dreamcast is about the only exception I can think of.

Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

Re: Why is PS1 sometimes refereed to as a PSX?
PSX was the development system with a dvr intended for use on the sony platforms
Re: Why is PS1 sometimes refereed to as a PSX?
Exactly. I used to get tons of game magazines in the 90s and browse forums/sites quite often, and the PS1 was always referred to as PSX. It's just ingrained in my head now.Flake wrote:Gaming mags from the 90's are largely to blame.

...and then Sony confused the shit out of us by making that stupid DVR that few people actually own.

As far as I'm concerned the playform is the PS1, although on message boards if I'm taking about the grey slab version I call it a PSX, and the tiny white version is a PSOne. I only dicovered the dev PSX recently

This is incorrect. It has absolutely nothing to do with gaming mags. This is why there's so much confusion on the subject, because people keep posting what they think, rather than the facts!brunoafh wrote:Exactly. You're welcome! I wish I could sticky it somewhere on the internet, as I see it asked an awful lot. :pCurlypaul wrote:I read it - thanks for the clarification.irixith wrote:http://www.racketboy.com/forum/viewtopi ... 24#p300324
