Have you ever bought games for consoles you don't own?

Recently I've seen great deals on games I really want for current gen systems I don't own yet (wii / ps3). Thinking about picking some of them up while they are dirt cheap and eventually buying when the prices for the consoles drop a bit more.

I have actually done it with retro games way more often. Sometimes I either have a friend that would want the game or I can play it with them on their console. It also drives me to collect more for some reason.

For example. Most recently (like a year ago) I acquired metal slug 4/5 and X-Men Legends for xbox. Neither are compatible with 360... ugh. I decided to do that when I was modding my friend's original xbox. Now I've been on the prowl for a cheap xbox that I can mod and collect more games for.

I have, either because they were included in a package (I have the Silent Hill Experience for PSP, but I have never owned nor have plans to own one. It came with my PS2 copy of Silent Hill 0rigins), or because I was planning on getting the console I could play it on.

Yes, I have. When I was planning on getting a Dreamcast, I bought Sonic Adventure before I had the DC yet. Spent the 2 weeks in between getting the game and getting the DC looking at the game, imagining it's awesomeness, and wishing I could play it. I also got Infamous about 2 or 3 weeks before I bought my PS3.

Yes, panzer dragoon orta, about 2 years later, i finally bit the bullet and bought an xbox original just for that game!

I get a console, then look through it's library to see what I'm interested in.

Oh, definitely. I generally won't buy a game for a system unless I have the console itself, but if I see something for cheap that's going to be good trade fodder, then I'm on it like a bonnet.

That's not a bad idea. That way when you buy your console, you'll already have games to play. If I can, I try to get games with the consoles.

- Perfect Dark Zero, bought it before I had a 360. Sadly one of the worst purchases ever.
- Metroid Prime Trilogy, bought this after I lost my Wii to a craigslist debacle and I've had it for years now. On the bright side it sounds hard to come by now anyways, and I'll have something to play right away when I get a Wii again someday.

Other than for the purpose of trading or selling the one time that sticks out to me was getting jet grind radio before I had my dc. I had played it at a friends house and knew I had to have it! I got the dc not too much later

I have a playstation game, a playstation 2 game, 4 original xbox games, a snes game, and a genesis game, none of which I have the systems for.
