Hello!
When I got my first pc back in around '95 i remember getting a ton of cd's with it, i dont know why it came with it, but 2 of the cd's were labeled "Ultima" and "Syndicate"
I never knew what those games are , or if they are fun at all. 16 years late now :p
I would like if any 1 would tell me a little about Ultima and syndicate
are they worth while?
are they fun?
did they have a cultural or industrial impact?
Plus, i remember there was a game that looked very similar to Syndicate and some one considered it the best game ever...can't recall its name

Note that one is turn based and has base building and research while the other, AFAIK, is in real time and combat-oriented.

Ultima was one of the first RPGs, even providing inspiration for the original Final Fantasy. So yeah, it had a bit of impact. I-III are pretty primitive, and mostly interesting from a historical standpoint. IV-VII are a lot more modern, and in some respect haven't been surpassed. Ultima IV for instance is an extremely open ended game, even more so than something like Shenmue.
If you're into RPGs at all, you should be familiar with Ultima. Do you know which Ultima you have? If it's on CD, it would have to be one of the later ones, or maybe a compilation. Could be Ultima Underworld too, that one's a dungeon crawling FPS/RPG hybrid. Made by Warren Spector who went on to do System Shock, etc.

also this Ultima game must be the longest running ever

i am not sure who plays that as i hardly hear about them.
Now that you said it, I can't remember if it was a floppy or a cd. i think maybe a cd.
i remembered when magazines put in a floppy disk filled with demos and games :p
