See that's the thing and why I've never gotten past that stage. You funk up once or twice and lose those power ups, and you may as well turn the game off. Haha... guess that can almost be said for most Gradius runs though, gotta have those extra power ups.Breetai wrote:Without being very powered up? VERY unlikely. And well here's that "green goo stage" I'm talking about if you guys haven't seen it, just look at how ridiculous this is. Is this even possible to get through without full powerups?

Re: Together Retro: Gradius III / Parodius
So, I don't have my SNES at uni, and my PS2 is broken, so I'll be playing a different gradius game this month to the rest of you guys. Here's the games I will be playing:

Nemesis for Game Boy

& Parodius (Parodius Da! I think) for Game Boy Colour

Yep, that's Parodius Da! It's actually a really excellent port of it too. Like the boss that's that big lady whose legs you go between... the animations are awesome for the GB hardware. Nemesis is... good. The 2nd one, Interstellar Assault is better though.

Otomedius Excellent. Looks to be a Parodius spinoff on 360?

Re: Together Retro: Gradius III / Parodius
What difficulty are you playing? I am finding it difficult to get very far on the default (normal) arcade settings on the PSP port. I have the PS2 version but haven't tried it in forever - what kind of options are there?Breetai wrote:Well, I got as far as stage 7 on Arcade/PS2 Gradius III, which is the flame stage similar to the flame stage in Life Force/Salamander that benderx was talking about.
I can get to stage 5 without dying. Stage 5 is totally doable without dying, but will definitely take more practice. Stage 6 is as well, as long as you are powered up (as with any level!!!).
Also, everyone should know that the game supports the Konami code and a few other cheats, so at the least it would be worth putting them in so that you can see the brilliance of the full game, even if you can't get to the end legitimately. Some of the music and sprite work towards the later levels is simply brilliant.
Re: Together Retro: Gradius III / Parodius
I'm having a very difficult time with normal settings on the PSP version too. This game is just brutal. I hate to do it, but I'm thinking of switching to easy, I can just barely get to the third level on normal.
That's good to hear. I'll stick it out for a bit longer on normal, although I doubt I'll be able to clear the game on it.dsheinem wrote:Some of the music and sprite work towards the later levels is simply brilliant.

I'm switching to EASY until I can get my shit together. I can't even beat the first level yet.brunoafh wrote:I'm having a very difficult time with normal settings on the PSP version too. Gradius III is one of the games I got a long time ago and is one of the very few horizontals I really like. I have beaten it countless times, just not recently...That damn speed stage gets me every time.
Re: Together Retro: Gradius III / Parodius
I'm playing on very easy. I'm sure everyone knows why! Normal on this game is like very difficult on other games. That doesn't mean I find it very easy.dsheinem wrote:What difficulty are you playing? There also also options of when you get a life extension, how many lives you start with (up to 9), etc. Standard stuff. There is also a nice stage select option, where you can restart from any checkpoint(!) of any stage you have already been to.
It's very nice, actually.

Re: Together Retro: Gradius III / Parodius
Ok, that makes me feel much better when comparing my relative lack of progress! I am trying to avoid using those options for now, but I know they exist on the PSP as well and will probably cave at some point later this month. In any case, it was nice for the developers to give us a fighting chance...but I really want to see how far I can get with the standard arcade settings. If I can make it half way (somewhere around level 4) I'd consider that damn good.Breetai wrote:I'm playing on very easy. There's also a save state feature of sorts in the PSP collection which I have been using to help learn levels. Does the PS2 offer that?
