I'm personally in the 'F*** Battle Network' camp as far as Mega Man fans go. But I understand that for those who like such things, the 5th game was supposed to be one of the peaks of the series.
There are a few games I'm unsure about whether I'm getting or not, if I do get them, I was going to replace the title with Sonic Adventure.

I've always thought GBA fans who haven't played a Megaman Battle Network title, or at least the later ones(they improve on SO many gameplay features by 5/6) were missing out. Probably my favorite "Action RPG" out there. Could just be because I actually played Battle Network 6 before I played any of his other games.

I Have Disney's Aladdin for SNES, but then I'd be overtaken with platformers. I love the genre more than anything else, but I still value variety.

Nah, dude. I am a Mega Man fan from the start, right there in the 80's. Very first game I ever played was Mega Man 2.

My problem with the Battle Network series is that it didn't need to be called Mega Man. It doesn't share the gameplay of the series like most of the spin-off's. It doesn't share in the continuity like Legends / Tron Bonne. Battle Network has zilch to do with Mega Man.

Capcom should have just made it its own IP and left Mega Man out of the title. But Capcom, like many other Japanese Companies, love to print out money at the expense of their franchises. And thus the Mega Man fan base is splintered.

They might be good games on their own right - I've only ever tried the second one and I was not impressed - but the connection to Mega Man is too flimsy.

/rant before I need to start another thread
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

That's the exact same reason I liked BN 5/6 a slightly more than the original titles.

One big similarity is that Megaman retains all of his "Defeat enemy, gain power" qualities(Along with a lot of other small things), really the game plays just like Megaman of a different genre if you think about it. BN transfers a lot of the formula of the originals into a new genre. I don't know if Legends does that or not, despite sharing plot connections.

It's kind of like an alternate universe version. I think that's how it's played actually, what with Protoman, Bass, Roll, Dr. Willy and tons of Robot Masters rolling around in the same time frame the original supposedly took place. It's a "what it" title, if our technology headed towards communications more than robotics, which it actually has.

Course I haven't played much megaman, I've played all six original titles, but never finished them. I haven't played through any of the X, Zero, ZX or Legends titles either. Purely because I don't own any right now, I don't like emulation and I'm tight on cash. I've read through wiki's and such to get an idea of characters and plot, but that's it.

EDIT: Also, I'd like to mention, I once tried playing M:BN 1, and I couldn't even do it, the gameplay was lacking and bland compared to the new ones, and the visuals were awful. I'd probably enjoy 4, but these games seem to be much better, the higher the number is. 5/6 being the good ones.

EDIT2: Also, that reply was meant for both you, and the guy you were replying too, I was talking to you both.

I played one or two battle network titles and hated them. The battles system is moderately fun I guess, but between battles, the gameplay is go here and find 8 of these, well done, now go here and find 3 of these guys, well done, now go here and talk to this guy, who will send you to find these 3 items. Boring.

Thunder Force III! (or Thunder Spirits if you want the SNES version. FYI Lightening Force is Thunder Force IV, and one of the best shmups ever).

Maybe Shinobi 3? Just because I think that game and TFIV have the best music in the Genesis hands down.

Thanks man. I'll consider those.

It has been quite some time since I've played a Shinobi game at all, and I've never tried 3.

Well okay, let me add that it's also simply one of the best games on the Genesis.
