1UP Presents (new magazine)
Re: 1UP Presents (new magazine)
The layout is awful.
Re: 1UP Presents (new magazine)
Is the only way to get this by printing it out from this page? Full-color printing ain't cheap.
EDIT: This reminds me a ton of PLAY.

For those asking about an electronic version....

...the contents of this magazine will be published on 1UP after E3, and eventually it should be released as a free-to-download PDF. No one is forcing you to buy the printed version! The magazine version exists for people who appreciate reading in its purest form. Everyone else can enjoy it in a few weeks when it shows up online.

Re: 1UP Presents (new magazine)
I read 1UP every day. I listen to Retronauts every week. I write for GameSpite. So what does that say about me as a person, DSH?
Re: 1UP Presents (new magazine)
I am merely suggesting that their fanbase doesn't mind some of their more agitating characteristics (like their self-proclaimed expertise and self-righteous critical opinions), and seem to happily buy into whatever they put out. If you are an exception to that rule, fine, but I simply don't understand what you see in their stuff given how much there is out there that is so much better (including other sites you frequent, such as HG101).noiseredux wrote:I read 1UP every day. It surely isn't elitist for you to make assumptions about a website's "fanbase".dsheinem wrote: $13+ shipped per issue should go over great with their fanbase.
By contrast, I think of the collaborative nature of this site as the anti-1UP because it isn't built around the ideas and opinions of a few select people.

Re: 1UP Presents (new magazine)
oh you responded before I edited out that blue part.
Anyway, I'm not so much defending 1UP as that's a much bigger site. But Retronauts for one, is a very informative podcast. I've listened to probably 50 episodes or more. The hosts change over the history of the show, usually picked by their interest/knowledge in the episode's topic. I've learned a LOT listening to that show, much like how I read HG101. Reading GameSpite is similar. But yes you're right it's info presented differently. HG101 is more fact based. GameSpite/Retronauts incorporates personal taste/memories etc. But I find them to be complimentary. Indeed Kurt has guested on several episodes of Retronauts and written for issues of GSQ. I'm pretty sure DSH that you overlook all the good historical info presented from these sources just cuz you don't like Jeremy Parish. It's okay if that's true, just be honest about it. Haha.
I don't really see this site as an anti-1UP or whatever. That's kind of apples n oranges.

I don't collect magazines and I won't buy this one but I like Jeremy Perish and wish him the best of luck with his new magazine.
I used to be a heavy magazine subscriber back in the days when the internet wasn't around or was still fairly new. At one point around the end of the 16-bit days, I must have been subscribed to at least 6 different video game magazines. EGM was my favorite.

I don't really have anything against Jeremy Parish personally, even if I don't care for Retronauts' podcast or blog. I actually have some appreciation for Gamespite, as it is a great way to bring together a lot of people with varying levels of expertise. I never found that ethos to be as prevalent on Retronauts, but maybe I haven't listened to enough episodes (I have heard probably 20 of them).noiseredux wrote:I'm pretty sure DSH that you overlook all the good historical info presented from these sources just cuz you don't like Jeremy Parish. Re: 1UP Presents (new magazine)
tough to say. Certainly some episodes are better than others. I'll try to think of some of the more interesting episodes and see if you've heard any of them. Off the top of my head, I recall finding the SunSoft episode really good for one. Also the TG16 episode -- that was basically just hosted by Ray Barnholt.dsheinem wrote: I don't really have anything against Jeremy Parish personally, even if I don't care for Retronauts' podcast or blog.
