Couldn't have said it better myself. It bugs me that I still see people hoping for a Chrono sequel when that's like the last thing I'd ever want SE to do (and as I stated earlier those developers aren't even part of them anymore). And the same can certainly be said about Mana (well I think it went to crap after the SNES anyways), and all their other short lived IP's on the PSX. They should remain untouched to retain their glory. They've already stunk up games like FFIV with the infinite amount of ports and an amount of remakes I've lost count of. Surely in the end they can never replace the old games or anything, but it's still pretty annoying and yeah, I just totally agree with Flake on this one.Flake wrote:I mean, how sad is it that I dread them announcing anything for Mana or SaGa, two series I love beyond reproach? I cringe at the thought of them reviving those franchises again because I know they'd just fuck up those labels even more. You shouldn't have to FEAR a game company ruining a legacy just by making more games.
What exactly is SquareEnix problem?

I love that SE port the old FFs to newer platforms all the time. I wish they did that with more of their catalog.
You guys see that as milking etc, but I see it as another convenience. Not everyone wants to go out of their way to buy old hardware.
In fact, I wish all games were multiplatform, just like any movie will play in any DVD player (I know there's region restrictions, but you get my point). I'm kinda tired of these proprietary platforms videogames grew in, and these days they really don't have much reason to exist anyway (PS3 and 360 are basically the same).

They have done very well with handhelds as someone else mentioned. Handhelds appear to be the best platform now for JRPGs. FFIV, Tactics Ogre (excellent game), FFT (despite some of the overly eloquent speech and occasional framerate issues) and DQ 4-6 are all excellent. I did also like DQ VIII and IX.
I also see people on here not liking FF XII. I actually enjoyed XII and thought the story was strong. I however, wasnt a big fan of X, despised X-2, and was very disappointed in XIII. XI was a strong MMO and XIV is an abomination. So for me they have been hit or miss. I also wasnt too fond of VIII compared to other FFs, but still a strong game. VI is still one of my top games of all time, and I love IV as well.
The problem was, especially with XIII, is that they have been trying to do too much on the current gen consoles. They lacked an identity, and tried to get different types of games all in one, but didnt excel in anything. XIII battle system was better than I anticipated and it grew on me. However, the structure of the game from the beginning to end completely changes once you leave the first world, almost like 2 different types of games. The story was meh and nonsensical at times or left me not caring. I never cared for any of the characters in XIII really like I have in past FFs. If you dont care about the characters then you sure as hell wont be interested in what happens to them.
