That's cool! Glad we could help bring some of your collection to life!
I'm sure the game is on a bunch of compilations by now :)

Man, I have a soft spot for this game. I used to play it on the 2600 when I was young'n. I always thought your ship turning into the laser was a cool effect, not just a graphical limitation workaround. Hooray for smoke and mirrors. This time around I'll be treating myself to the arcade version.

Awesome pick, folks.

I had this for the 2600 and had never played it in the arcades. It kicked my ass pretty regularly in 2600 form.

I have never played this game before. It is interesting and hard! I wish I had a controller to use instead of the keyboard. After playing for about 15 min the highest score I have had is 1800.

Man, I feel old when I see stuff like that. I'm only 21, but I can't imagine what it would be like to have not starting gaming with my SMS/2600/arcades. I feel as though everyone has spent as much time as I did on the classics, but that just isn't the case. It's just crazy for me to think that.

Looking forward to firing this one up sometime this week!

just a suggestion, but in future can we have a little advance warning about what the game is going to be in case we need to track it down offline (e.g. ebay or whatnot)? at least a week would be helpful. in this particular case i'll prob. just try out the version on the midway site.

I have the "Upcoming Games" thread in this part of the forum and I will also mention it ahead of time on my Twitter account:

great starting choice!

I've owned it since new on the 2600 [seems like I'm older than a majority of you here], but havent played it in many years. Well I know what I'm going to be doing later this week.

I've never played this game exactly but i did have a game called Dropzone for GBC that was very similar, don't know if there is any reason for that! It's a really fun game, extremely hard (my top score on my 1st go was 150, thats one kill), i would hate to play it with the reverse/thrust controls but i think thats jest because i'm used to playing Dropzone with the 8 directional pad. All in all a good first game for the club, I'll play it more throughout the week and try and get a bit better at it. Any word on how long we get to play these games Racketboy? Don't want to be just getting into it when the next game comes up!

Good choice for a first game. This is exactly why I joined the club, to try games that I would never play on my own, and this is definitely one of those cases. The Atari 2600 port is also a little trip down memory lane. I usually consider the Saturn as being my first console, but the truth is before that I had an Atari 2600 clone, one of those that comes with tons of games built-in, and playing Defender on an emulator really brings back memories, special the sound effects that are so characteristic of the system.

By the way, I'm pretty sure that you've said this already, but how long are we going to play this game before moving on to the next? I hope it's not too long, because this is a pretty straightforward one.
