I played 1, then 7, then 6, then 4, then 10, then 9... yeah I jumped around a bunch.
My friend started with 7, but 4 is his favorite.
What exactly is SquareEnix problem?

Re: What exactly is SquareEnix problem?
Square Enix's problem is that development costs have gotten so high, and their revenues have decreased, that they are soooo desperate to get more people to buy their games, they don't know what to do and they panic.
They stick the name Final Fantasy to EVERY game they make (no matter how little it has to do with the series).
They get desperate and try to increase sales, by catering to the "I always hated FF crowed"
They get cold feet and add stuff to cater to the FF crowd.
They go back and forth, not sure of what to do, and end up making a mediocre game, which fails to get news fans.
....if it wasn't for the low development costs of handhelds, and the phenomenal sales of their handheld games in Japan, they'd have shut down the shop by now.

You guys do realize there's an easy option for dealing with this, right? Just don't buy their games. I quit buying SquareEnix games in the previous console generation around the time FFX-2 came out. My girlfriend has picked up a couple since then, but I don't seek them out like I did during the PS1 era or earlier. I ultimately stopped worrying about what they put out. Sure, I'll watch a trailer, but in general I've noticed that afterwards I'm just not that interested, so not buying the game is an easy choice.

The problem is, that as a fan of an artist who used to be great, you get sad to see him (them in this case) go down the drain.Ack wrote:You guys do realize there's an easy option for dealing with this, right? That's similar to how I feel. I haven't bought anything from them except Space Invaders Extreme in years (and they're only the publisher anyways). But I still get upset when I see a new FF game or whatever because the people working on it are clearly extremely talented, yet they're working on a steaming pile of shit.ZeroAX wrote:The problem is, that as a fan of an artist who used to be great, you get sad to see him (them in this case) go down the drain.Ack wrote:You guys do realize there's an easy option for dealing with this, right? Re: What exactly is SquareEnix problem?
Another problem I have is that they more than likely make it harder for smaller developers to succeed, so I almost feel like they kind of have a monopoly on the JRPG market from time to time, but SE obviously aren't the ones putting out quality or innovative titles. So them being that huge company putting out garbage that a lot of people are still going to eat up just makes the situation worse. But I guess that can be said for many big developers/publishers and such.ZeroAX wrote:The problem is, that as a fan of an artist who used to be great, you get sad to see him (them in this case) go down the drain.Ack wrote:You guys do realize there's an easy option for dealing with this, right? I hate to say i think I think I lost hope in them years ago
Re: What exactly is SquareEnix problem?
So many memories have 'Squaresoft' stamped on them. I can stop buying their games, yes. I haven't purchased a Square Enix game in years. But I still WANT them to get back to their glory days. I'd settle for a return to not-sucking.Ack wrote:You guys do realize there's an easy option for dealing with this, right? Just don't buy their games.
I mean, how sad is it that I dread them announcing anything for Mana or SaGa, two series I love beyond reproach? I cringe at the thought of them reviving those franchises again because I know they'd just fuck up those labels even more. You shouldn't have to FEAR a game company ruining a legacy just by making more games.
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

Re: What exactly is SquareEnix problem?
I haven't played through a ff game after X which I enjoyed. X-2 was garbage and I quit half way through. I am currently replaying FFVII on psx and FFI anniversary edition on psp both of which I love. Also, I just played Dragon Quest VIII and I really liked that as well. DQVIII has a real old school feel to it. I did play Blue Dragon (I know this was myswalker) last year as well and felt like it had no depth and was made for second graders.
