Why is Chrono Trigger part of FF Chronicles?
I've never understood. I mean I know it's probably just because they're both Square games. But why include CT on a compilation of FF? It seems so odd. Why call the compilation FF if 50% of it isn't a FF game? Am I missing some other connection? I guess I'm just not sure why they didn't just release each as single disc stand-alone games. Or why III wasn't included with IV (I guess because no translation had been done yet right?)

Final Fantasy was one of the most powerful brand names on the market back then.
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?
Re: Why is Chrono Trigger part of FF Chronicles?
Final Fantasy Chronicles is actually a NA-exclusive release. The NTSC-J equivalent would be Final Fantasy Collection, which consists of FF IV, V and VI. Being that Final Fantasy Anthology (NA only as well) collected V and VI, that left IV without anything to pair with. Chrono Trigger had it's own PS1 release in Japan, so I guess they just decided to bundle IV and Chrono Trigger together for a NA release. Supposedly the Japanese PS1 release of Chrono Trigger isn't plagued by the loading issues.

yeah don't you think it would have made more sense to just sell FFIV and CT seperately though? No?brunoafh wrote:Final Fantasy Chronicles is actually a NA-exclusive release. At any rate, yr right about loading times in Japan. Reason being that the Japanese version of CT on PS1 is actually just a ROM + emulator.
Re: Why is Chrono Trigger part of FF Chronicles?
I always found that stupid too. You always hear about FF3 being pretty good, but we never got it over here (I'm not counting the DS version). FF5 wasn't translated before (I don't think) it was released with 6 on PS1. So there's no reason they couldn't have given us FF3 with 4. They were just being lazy.noiseredux wrote:Or why III wasn't included with IV (I guess because no translation had been done yet right?)
And also, if they would have given us 3 with 4, then every FF game from 1-9 would have been on the PS1. Pretty cool. But they had to go and fuck it up.

Funny thing about that is that I hear that the japanese version of FFIV actually has pretty nasty loading times, while the US one doesn't.noiseredux wrote:yeah don't you think it would have made more sense to just sell FFIV and CT seperately though? Who knows why they released it like that. But you have to love the anime videos they added to the game.
Thanks everyone...

I still can't figure out why FF3 wasn't remade along with 1 and 2 in FF Origins (or any of the other ten billion FF 1+2 remakes)
Re: Why is Chrono Trigger part of FF Chronicles?
Yeah they could have, they just decided not to for whatever reason. If IV was included in FF Anthology they probably would have released Chrono Trigger alone. Maybe they were worried about sales and didn't want to risk two separate releases.noiseredux wrote:yeah don't you think it would have made more sense to just sell FFIV and CT seperately though? No?
Well the problem is that the FFIII WonderSwan Color remake fell through. If they were to release it on PS1, people would be expecting the quality of the visuals and audio to be on par with FFI and II on PS1 instead of an NES game. So if they were to release it on PS1 they would have to do a full on remake, and if they were to release it in NA they would have to translate it too.Ziggy587 wrote:I always found that stupid too. Re: Why is Chrono Trigger part of FF Chronicles?
yeah it always confused me when I was younger. The fact that CT was on a disc called FF Chronicles made me assume it was actually part of the FF cannon. I figured it was kind of like how there's non-FF games that take place in Ivalice or something...
