I was about to mention this actually, though I doubt that was actually square's intention in leaving it on the slim models.BoringSupreez wrote:It does have a use, just a rather obscure use that most people won't ever use. If you have the memory card adapter thingy, you could use it to store PS2 saves you aren't using at the moment on your PS3, so that you only have to buy 1 PS2 memory card.Xeogred wrote:Yup.

Why not just buy one of the new ones with the internal power supply?Weekend_Warrior wrote:I just wish Sony would get their heads outta their asses and bring back backwards compatibility on their new PS3's.
Why?
1. There's still a very strong demand for bc on the PS3
2. My PS2 that I've owned since 2002 is dying. It no longer plays CD-R's. And it only plays half of a DVD movie now
3. I still need to buy a PS3
Make it happen, Sony

You mean Sony, not Square, right? And I think the reason it's still there is because it costs Sony less time and money to leave it there, near useless, than it does to remove it. It's not doing any harm, so why bother taking it out?AppleQueso wrote:I was about to mention this actually, though I doubt that was actually square's intention in leaving it on the slim models.BoringSupreez wrote:It does have a use, just a rather obscure use that most people won't ever use. I think I might know what's wrong with your PS2. The laser probably needs adjusting. You can find guides on how to do that easily online. Try that first before you replace it.Weekend_Warrior wrote:I just wish Sony would get their heads outta their asses and bring back backwards compatibility on their new PS3's.

Yeah backing up the saves can still put that feature to use. I actually have the adapter but it just seems kind of pointless to me, it was a godsend with the PSX though... got my 10 or so memory cards transferred on there plus some more, haha.

I bought mine around the same time, and have had the same problem. Try opening it up and cleaning the eye. You should also clean out all the dust you see and re-grease the rods the eye slides on (Use white lithium grease). I did that a couple of months ago and it's working perfectly now.Weekend_Warrior wrote:2. My PS2 that I've owned since 2002 is dying. It no longer plays CD-R's. Re: The Playstation 2 looks to almost be singing its swan song
I just fixed my brother's "broken" PS2 that exact way today. Works fine now. With old disc-based consoles, you can't just assume they're broken if they no longer work. There are so many small, easily repairable things that can go wrong that you've got to try fixing them before you treat them to the inside of your trash can. If I threw away every PS2 that ever gave me issue, there would be like 4 less PS2's out there than there are now. And I've only ever had 5.Xelyx wrote:I bought mine around the same time, and have had the same problem. Try opening it up and cleaning the eye. As with everything. I don't believe in "broken" things. I cringe at the though of people trashing consoles/carts because they deemed them broken.BoringSupreez wrote:With old disc-based consoles, you can't just assume they're broken if they no longer work.

Re: The Playstation 2 looks to almost be singing its swan song
I'm surprised to see not much clearancing out of the PS2 new consoles yet. I was just in Best Buy yesterday and saw about 10 new PS2 sitting there on the shelf. About half were the holiday Toy Story 3 bundle. I did see they were sold out of the Dual Shock 2 controllers at $10 each. They still had the single black memory card and a third party memory card for sale at $10 each. I do know that my local Ohio Target store had the PS2 consoles on clearance for $85 and they sold out at the price and have not stocked anymore since then several weeks ago.
As for new games I still see a pretty good selection of new games at Best Buy and Gamestop. Some games have dropped but they aren't yet really clearancing them out. I did pick up a new copy of Sakura Wars 2 at a Gamestop a few weeks ago for the new price of $20.
I think Madden and Fifa might actually be the end of the line for the PS2 this fall. Actually Madden and Fifa sent out the PS1 also back in 2004 in August and September respectively. I also think next year will probably be the end of the line for PSP. I bet Madden and Fifa will send out the PSP next year as well....

Yeah, I don't see the PSP living alongside the NGP the way the PS1 did with the PS2, or the PS2 with the PS3.Purkeynator wrote:I'm surprised to see not much clearancing out of the PS2 new consoles yet.
