Ideas for Gaming Blog Content

Post by Wombatula »

So I've gotten some great advice on this forum for my goal of going back and playing all the great games from all the past systems I've missed. My wife and kids are even going to play along with me. One thing I've decided to do is instead of buying a bunch of older systems, I'm going to focus on one or two systems and as I finish playing all the games I want to on one system, then I'll add another. I'll be starting with the Dreamcast and the Gamecube due to the lower number of games, but still having a large enough amount of quality games to collect. I also want to start a blog to document the fun I'm going to have and was wondering if any of you had any ideas for some extra content I might want to add. Here's some articles I already think I want to have:

1. New games I find or add to my collection
2. Reviews by my wife and I, and maybe even my daughter of games we play each week
3. Pics of any system mods or paintjobs I do
4. A possible wishlist for games/hardware I'm looking for
5. Any interesting or funny stories from our gaming journey
6. My family has a designated "Family Video Game Night", I thought it might be interesting to put a recap of that on there.

I know something like this probably won't be interesting to the majority of gamers, but it still seems like a fun way to keep me and my wife on track, and I've always loved writing so I think it'll be fun. I've just never really blogged before, other than our family blog that keeps out of state relatives up to date on our family. Is there anything I should add or expand on to possibly make it more interesting to read or more appealing? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Well. things like 'best of' or 'recommendation' list are always hitgrabbers as far as i have seen. you can get over your gaming experience and become a slightly more interesting blog for it, according to bloggering 101. More relatable and that.

Do it :)
I know this is what brought me back into handheld gaming BEYOND the omnipresent Nintendos.
Reading gaming discovery posts and blogs on the Atari Lynx have won me over to finally buy that thing last year and I have never regretted it.
I hope, thanks to racketboy, the same is going to happen with the Neo Geo Pocket Color ;)

As far as I am concerned, I am heavily influenced by reader reviews. The guys in the industry write well but it´s a good corrective to read normal first gamers´ experiecnes. As you go along building up a collection, don´t hesitate to post your first impressions on games that are new for you! I read these things for pleasure and in the course of weeks make them a basis to decide what´s next to add to the gaming table.
Nintendo GB, GBA SP, DS phat, GBA, GB Color, GB Micro, DS lite, GB Pocket, GBA SP Tribal, Atari Lynx since 09/2010, Sega Game Gear since 01/11, Neo Geo Poket Color since 05/11

This is a really smart idea for someone that's trying to catch up on gaming. Good luck when you get to the avalanche of games that is the PS1 and 2 library though...

I find the most interesting gaming blogs to be those with a narrow focus.

Precisely, I don't give a shit about what you thought of a game or particularly what you picked up that weekend at a car boot sale. The stuff I am interested in are articles which talk about a very specific topic, stuff I haven't read a hundred times before in a hundred and one different blogs. Find a niche and stick to it.

There are far too many blogs obsessed with narcissistic ramblings about nothing. I want to read about stuff that is new to me not new to you.
