Why do people hang out in empty parking lots?

Most of my teen years were spent in parking lots... skateboarding, drug deals and use, casual sex, talking shit to cops, dealing with crazies, fights, good times.

Aren't most people who hang out in parking lots either high school kids or people who live with their parents?

I guess it's just a "get away" spot because they don't have anywhere else to go or anything better to do. Beats me.

We used to play hockey and kickball and occasionally skate. There were much better skating spots than the parking lot. It was also a good meetup spot to figure out what we were going to do next.

My group of friends and I have something we like to call the "parking lot vortex." We'll do something like go over to a friend's place, see a movie, or play computer games on the AU campus. When we leave, which we tend to do en mass, often times we'll be walking through the parking lot when someone says something. Someone responds, a conversation gets going that interests all of us, and before we know it we've been standing there for two hours. It actually happens pretty often to us, so now we force ourselves to get into our cars and drive off.
