So will this finally be the end of an era? Will the PS2 sing its last song soon?

I dont see anymore game releases beyond your typical Madden and FIFA franchises. Even Japan doesn't have much more planned to release.

I think you're confused on the term "swan song".

I use it in the context of Sony retiring the PS2, what did you think I meant?brunoafh wrote:I think you're confused on the term "swan song".

Re: The Playstation 2 looks to almost be singing its swan song
A swan song is one last glorious song after a lifetime of relative silence. PS2 can't have a swan song since it's was singing all along...unless we get some mind-blowing games that put everything else to shame, which is no easy feat!
But concerning the PS2 retiring, I don't see myself getting a PS3 for a very long time, if ever, so I'll be missing out on anything new.

It's a little sad. The PS2 is still my favorite console, and it's finally starting to close its doors.
But on the positive side, games can get relatively cheaper. Unless expensive games become even more expensive and valuable.
Also, can't people release unofficial games for the PS2 later down the line, like what people did with the Dreamcast over in Japan?

I thought swan song just meant the last truly great song. Never knew about the long time of silence part.o.pwuaioc wrote:A swan song is one last glorious song after a lifetime of relative silence. I feel old when talking to anyone my age yet too inexperienced to effectively talk to anyone older. Life is grand that way.

The ps2 swan song already released and it was called Sakura Wars, the final epic ps2 release.

It's an old Greek legend that mute swans are, well, mute their whole life, and only sing, beautifully at that, when they're dying. The Romans then figured out it was a myth. I think Wikipedia has specifics.MrEco wrote:I thought swan song just meant the last truly great song. Never knew about the long time of silence part.
