One thing that drives me nuts is a lot of the guys I go to the gym with talk nonstop about the results and goals they want, but their attitude and lifestyle outside of the gym doesn't reflect any of these goals at all. My friends go back to drinking, smoking, eating fast food, getting high, etc and complain when they aren't jacked.
Well said. As I mentioned before, you need a vision. Without a vision (plan), your expectations will not be met.

I can't stress the point of eating right and exercising on a regular basis. Supplementing is just what it says it is, a supplement and should be administered as so. That said, don't underestimate the power of integrating supplements into your diet. Unless you eat like a champ everyday, you better be taking at least a multi, and getting the appropriate fiber requirements for your body. If you want legitimate gains, at the very least you should be consuming additional protein.

thanks for all of your contributions I read them all

I am taking whey protein to substitute for protein i should take from food
because i just cant eat 4 times a day

I feel comfortable with whey because its natural as far as I understand
no chemical additives to give extra results

Also some said to go big or go home
am not trying to be a body builder
trying to gain muscles , but not to the level of having the perfect body
i am seeing good results already

trust me i would love to give up junk food
but i really dont have the time through the day to cook each time i feel hungry
am not sure any one can do it, unless he is married and his wife takes care of that part

it takes some time to cook each meal

It's a total myth that there are no quick healthy meals. There's plenty of things you can just heat up in the microwave for a minute. You really don't have a minute? To me, it just sounds like you're making excuses for being lazy.

Try a wrap, just throw some turkey in the microwave to heat it up, wrap it in a tortilla with some lettuce, bell peppers, or what have you. There, good fast healthy meal. You get some carbs, you get some protein, and a vegie.

I dont really like cooking for myself either but I force myself to for the sake of my workouts. In my mind I dont want to go to the gym and push myself and work my ass off in a physical regard, but when it comes to cooking I used to be incredibly lazy and I would just eat crappy food or nothing at all to save time. If you're gonna put the effort in at the gym, you might as well put in a little effort in the kitchen.

5-15 minutes of cooking is a breeze compared to an hour of weight lifting, and you're only cheating yourself by not having good meals. You can think of it as skipping half your workout.

That being said, just get a rice cooker, tons of sandwich meat, salad, eggs, vegetables, etc. It really takes about 5-10 minutes tops to make a really good sandwich with fruit and vegetables on the side. Or you can just throw some chicken breasts in the oven while the rice cooks and you can go back to gaming or whatever while they cook. Eggs are also really good for you and they are one of the easiest and cheapest things to cook.

Also if you are going to still skimp out on meals make sure to have a really good breakfast and to never skip it. I can't emphasize how important breakfast is compared to other meals. Just look up some articles on why/how important breakfast is if you need some more advice.

I am happy that people caught onto what I said and agreed with my earlier "go big or go home" mantra but I didn't mean it in a "hardcore get bodybuilder huge" sort of way. I never want to be the size of a body builder and that isn't what I am aiming for. I just mean in terms of the lifestyle and your routine, you should give it your all instead of skimping out on crucial aspects.

Try to set yourself a realistic obtainable goal to help push and motivate yourself. Challenge yourself to lose X amount of weight, or do X amount of push ups in a row, run for X amount of time, gain X amount of weight by a certain date, and so on. This will help motivate you and keep you on track and if/when you finally reach your goal, you will feel accomplished, you will obviously see the desired results and you can always set new goals from there.

A neat trick I learned while doing lifeguard/swimming lessons is for something like situps and push ups you can try to add just one more every time you do them. If you start at 20 push ups, next time do 21, then 22 the next day, and so on. It doesn't seem like a lot and adding just one every week (or every few days, or how often you do pushups/situps) will actually make a huge difference over time. I found it actually fairly easy to get that extra pushup/situp in and eventually I was doing twice the amount that I used to. Granted you will eventually peak with this, and it really depends how often you do them but I still recommended it.

Probably because when you think microwave you think tv dinners and pizza rolls am i right?

The microwave is just a way to heat things up, if you know how to use one correctly it's actually a lot better than it seems.

Now you can be in the group that ignores these reports and says it's just a lot of bs. But do you really want to take the risk?... I for one don't, so I don't have a microwave, and probably never will. But even if it wasn't unhealthy, I'm not sure if I would want one. I like to prepare my food with love. Going paleo only made that feeling stronger. Now I really have to think what I do. And even though there are a lot of restrictions with this diet, I seem to be eating much more varied than I did before. I'm discovering new stuff daily... ^^

As long as I eat a lot of bananas I should be fine...

I was thinking about typing up some of the stuff in the links your posted because I'm not a fan of microwaves either, but the links are much better than anything I would be able to explain.

Good luck with going paleo, I have a buddy that swears by it. I know what it's like to suddenly change your diet and have to come up with new ways to prepare food and new things to eat, I did a sudden diet change a few years ago and it was one of the best decisions I've ever made.

You notice how none of those links come from http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov? That's a good clue that none of them have any scientific merit. Find some peer reviewed scientific studies that microwave use decreases the amount of nutrients actually absorbed and metabolized by microwave users and then we can talk. Otherwise, it's just pseudo-scientific scare mongering which is *extremely* common when we talk about nutrition.

Most common sense nutrition recommendations are flat out wrong. For instance, there's very, very little evidence to support the use of vitamin supplements. Vitamin D is an important one, but Vitamin C for instance is almost worthless. Even when there is scientific evidence, nutrition is so complex that it's often conflicting. Are eggs good or bad for heart health? Depends on what day of the week it is it seems.

Don't try to micromanage your nutrition. Just eat as many green vegetables as you can (percentage wise) and stay active. This is all you need to do to be healthier than 90% of the people in the country. Any time you spend obsessing about nutrition is time that could be better spent living your life.

And dude, those pages REEK of pseudoscience. You need a better bullshit detector.
