Underrated Current Generation Games

Post by insanecow0 »

What are you favorite underrated games, and why do you think they're so overlooked? I decided to rework this thread to make it more interesting, and there has already been a lot of talk and articles about underrated games of prior generations.

There is many more that I haven't played yet, but here's some for starters:

The Saboteur

Pandemic's swan song, and a fine one at that. A very engaging sandbox game that breathed life into the overdone World War 2 style of games.

Singularity

Sure it takes a lot from Bioshock, but I find it to be a great game in its own right.

John Woo's Stranglehold

I found it to have some interesting gameplay mechanics, and I deem it to be a solid TPS game.

The Club

Pretty addictive TPS with an interesting combo system.

Deadly Premonition

Four words: real time beard growing.

I have, but I thought it could still be discussed. It slipped my mind when I made the thread for whatever reason. Also, they only covered previous generations, but this thread can include current gen games.

Maybe I was just more into games than I realized, but a lot of those I never thought of as "hidden gems", but rather just gems. I thought games like Adventures of Lolo, Zombies Ate My Neighbors, Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine, Illusion of Gaia, Rock N' Roll Racing, etc.... were all pretty well-known games. Did I just get lucky as a kid to have played and owned such great titles?

As far as underrated games, I'll add Extreme G Racing III for the PS2. I spent so much time playing that, and yet not very many people I've talked to were very familiar with it.

There's nothing wrong with suggesting titles to the list or seeking to discuss the contents of an article or article theme that affects current consoles. Are there Hidden Gems for the current generation? Of course! I consider Condemned: Criminal Origins to be a great hidden gem on the 360, and while it's been becoming more noticed, Deadly Premonition is the same way. Earlier today I noticed someone mention Matt Hazard as a current gen hidden gem.

I agree with Matt Hazard and Deadly Premonition. Matt Hazard was treated way too harshly by the critics imo, I enjoyed it. Deadly Premonition is refreshingly quirky, and also didn't get the attention it deserved.

Every time I see Deadly Premonition mentioned I am obligated to say this.

GOTY 2010.

NiGHTS: Journey of Dreams x100

Always gets compared to the nostalgia/quality of NiGHTS into Dreams, and while I do say after watching an LP of both, the music/levels are way similar, Journey of Dreams is still a fantastic game. Also VA and human controls.

But this is my most wanted sequel and seriously deserved better reviews and sales.

Four words: Real time beard growing. That's GOTY material right there  Even though it isn't perfect, there's a ton of content for the 20 dollar price, and it's hilarious to boot. There hasn't been a lot of survival horror games this gen, but Deadly Premonition fit the bill nicely.

Amazing FPS with comic book like visuals, as it was based on one. More games were planned, but XII didn't sell well enough :(
I'm not sure I'd call it amazing, but I did enjoy playing it on PC. Well, up until that final fight with that freaking platform that was really easy to fall off of. You have to admit that David's voice acting in that was absolutely awful though. :P
