I highly doubt these remasters will be region free. And I fully expect releases to be slim and slow outside of Japan.brunoafh wrote:Well that shouldn't be a problem since this thing is kicking off in Japan anyway, unless that's not what you mean.wip3outguy7 wrote:Hmm... other than that, the other games I would want weren't even released in the US.

Well, we'll see how far a PSN exclusive release gets them after the PSN security breach... Look at what happened to the PSPGO... They'd have to be monumentally retarded to make them PSN only. Why would they cut off such a large number of customers? Especially considering they're coming off the back of one of the biggest consumer data breaches ever. Do they think people are just going to go running back to PSN waving their credit cards at it? You've got to be joking...MrPopo wrote:That assumes they go with disc for EU/US releases.Niode wrote:Thank fuck for that. I didn't say they weren't. I just doubt their PS3 HD remastered counterparts will be region free. Which is why I was pointing out (in my earlier post that isn't counted in this group of quotes) that other than 3 or 4 games, the only PSP titles I really care about weren't even released outside of Japan.noiseredux wrote:all PSP games are region free.wip3outguy7 wrote: I highly doubt these remasters will be region free. So if PSP HD PS3 games are not available worldwide on PSN, regardless of their region of origin, they are unfortunately kind of worthless to me. Unless I buy a Japanese PS3. And at this point that might not even be good enough. With the re-structuring of PSN, we may not be able to make purchases from other regions when the store goes live again.

To Noise's point, most PS3 disc games are region free. PSN is another story.wip3outguy7 wrote:I didn't say they weren't. Sorry, Popo. I just threw a major edit in there that probably explains my statement a little better.MrPopo wrote:To Noise's point, most PS3 disc games are region free. PSN is another story.

True, but you could still import the JP disc releases (assuming the text being in Japanese isn't an issue for you), since those will likely be region free.wip3outguy7 wrote:Sorry, Popo. Yeah, but I don't think owning those JP region UMDs is going to hold any weight as to whether or not you can obtain the HD release for the PS3. My understanding is that Sony is going to sell these titles through PSN as stand alone games. So if you want the HD version of the import UMD game you are playing, you must have access to that region's PSN store.MrPopo wrote:True, but you could still import the JP disc releases (assuming the text being in Japanese isn't an issue for you), since those will likely be region free.wip3outguy7 wrote:Sorry, Popo. Example: Say I want to play the remastered Macross: Ace Frontier on my United States Playstation 3. I have the UMD. Do you honestly think Harmony Gold, with their long running history of roadblocking every attempt at releasing a Macross game in the 'States, is going to allow me to just hop on PSN and get the HD version?
Nope, I'm sorry. I have a hard time believing that the region free sales model will be kept when these titles are remastered and put up for sale on PSN.
Unless I have completely misunderstood how Sony intends to distribute these remakes.
Re: "PSP Remasters" (PSP games on PS3)
I'm confused by this... why would you have to buy a Japanese PS3? All blu ray discs are region free. Regardless of what region the game you want to play is released in, you can play it on any PS3.
