I agree. I try to avoid emulation as much as possible, but sometimes it's just silly not to.

Also, flashcarts. You could easily buy a few for the price this game costs CIB.

You could also: Make a car payment, pay off part of your mortgage, buy food, pay insurance, et cetera.

Only you can decide what you'd be willing to pay tho. This isn't a rare game, really, and it's not impossible to find it CIB without even going on Ebay or Amazon. Just keep looking.
Was $600 still sealed?
No (and honestly it's hard to verify a "new" Earthbound considering it was never sealed in anything at all). There's a topic over at Digitpress for watching Earthbound CIB auctions end. For instance, the featured one ended at $730: here
I have a ton of games listed at my store's site: Super Smash Video Games

- Box. It had a special oversized box because it comes with..

- Strategy Guide. It came with the full strategy guide, which to really be complete needs..

- Scratch & Sniff Cards. There were certain points in the game where these could be used. A truly "complete" guide would have these be unused.

- All the usual pack-in inserts.

- The plastic wrap that covered the cart. (It did not come with the plastic bottom protective cover.)

- The oversized cardboard insert that held the cartridge in the oversized box.

Many copies that you see being sold will include the box (without cardboard insert), guide and cart which really is "good enough". However, if you desire a truly complete copy of the game, it must have everything listed above.

$450 is an outrageous price. In the $200 range for a complete copy is much more common.
How difficult would it be to buy the game without the inserts and find replacements? I don't know about American Super Nintendo games, but did a lot of games come with identical leaflets and such?

Nothing about this game is worth the amount of money people pay for it. It is simply ridiculous
