booting a dreamcast import on vga - help!

Post by grittykitty »

i'm trying to boot shenmue II pal version on my ntsc dreamcast using vga for the video output, but it's not working! i downloaded 2 different versions of the utopia 1.2 bootdisc from underground gamer and neither of them have worked. does anyone know of a working torrent that they have tested themselves?

in detail, here's what happens - i can see the dreamcast bootup screen and hear the drive doin' its thang. when i get to a black screen, i put in the shenmue II disc and after much spinning, the tv will readjust (the "analog 60hz 480i" or whatever screen pops up, which means the tv acknowledges receiving a video signal. the disc keeps spinning but i see no image. my vmu shows the shenmue II logo though.

i tried to boot initially from my trusty utopia 1.1 disc (which is known to not have vga support) and the dreamcast will tell me on the main menu that "this games doesn't support the current video output" or whatever.

any ideas? know of a way to get a working import loader that supports vga?

ok, nevermind! i dug deep into my old files on my external drive and found a pretty great (and rare, it seems) bootdisc released by interact that was ripped by belokk. supports vga for pal shenmue II on my ntsc dreamcast! i uploaded it to sendspace if anyone else needs this:

at 665k, why not download it just in case?

I always had a problem with Shenmue II (if that is the copy I sent you) booting on my Dreamcast. It would always load up to 96% on Utopia then just stop... I ended up having to play it on my Treamcast.

I use a burned copy of DC-X. Before that, I used a gameshark cd.

I've never been able to get PAL Shenmue 2 to work through VGA using DC-X. Do all PAL games have this problem through VGA on NTSC TVs?
