I started trying to actually become good at Ikaruga. Thank god for practice mode!

Good luck man. Ikaruga's a tough one. Such a great fucking game though.Sideroller wrote:I started trying to actually become good at Ikaruga. Thank god for practice mode!

Definitely. Right now I have the first chapter down, and I just started practicing the second one. I have no idea how I'm going to get past chapter 4 though, it's pretty insane.

At least it's not madness to the extent of Radiant Silvergun. I still haven't seen the end of that game, and I've played it a lot.

I don't know, yeah, great graphics and concept - and i'm even pretty good at rotating colors, but i'm seriously tired of playing the same 2 boards over and over...as in, I can't get past the 3rd and i've put more time into this game than most.brunoafh wrote:Good luck man. Ikaruga is quite the artistic game, but I did not have fun playing it. I really do not like that you either don't score (which is the only time I had a bit of fun with it, but still didn't love it), or score, and play the game exactly as it was constructed. I can see why some people fall for it, but I would rather play almost any of the 50 shmups in my library than Ikaruga.mjmjr25 wrote:I don't know, yeah, great graphics and concept - and i'm even pretty good at rotating colors, but i'm seriously tired of playing the same 2 boards over and over...as in, I can't get past the 3rd and i've put more time into this game than most.brunoafh wrote:Good luck man. Great music, but I think they screwed up with the scoring system. Granted, I am a Cave fan, and that may have a lot to do with it.

Absolutely loved Ikaruga, really wish there were more (AAA quality) games with that concept, with the whole colors thing. I've played some fanmade ones but they're just not on par at all. Definitely a beast, but just like Thunder Force IV it was one of the most satisfying shooters I was able to conquer.
That damn Gradius V though... has anyone here cleared that one?
I always get to the green goo thing stage and it's game over.

I don't know if this is one of the fan games you have played, but if you are looking for more Ikaruga-style color switching mechanic, I suggest you try eXceed 2nd-Vampire Rex. As far as doujin shmups go, it's one of the better ones. I posted links to where you can download it hereXeogred wrote:Absolutely loved Ikaruga, really wish there were more (AAA quality) games with that concept, with the whole colors thing.
