I agree tactics is the best in the series, even if it's not the series proper. I played it to death back then with over 200+ hours of gameplay and still go back for more even today.
IMHO, FFVII is overrated but still a great game. Just play the game and ignore everything else related to the milking.

Thats not saying much as ive only played 1, 8, and 10. I would love to see tactics 2, but first i got to beat the first one but its so damn hard!
THOSE FUCKING JUDGES OUTLAWED MY KNIGHTS SWORDS!!!!!!!!
HOW CAN A KNIHT BE A KNIGHT WITHOUT A FUCKIN SWORD!!!!
The only way to really beat the game is to simply approach mission points during days when the laws aren't fucking retarded. Wasn't there literally a law that said No Attacking? The only way to win was to reflect damage I think, when the enemy itself was stupid enough to attack. Or if you had more party members than the enemy, you could just kill the enemies, each kill sending one of your own to pound-me-in-the-ass prison, and then you're left with the difference.Cerulean wrote:THOSE FUCKING JUDGES OUTLAWED MY KNIGHTS SWORDS!!!!!!!!

I'm actually in the middle of FF7 right now (ahh.. sweet nostalgia), and I definitely have to agree that the magic attacks take too long to play out. I understand that they were flexing the graphical muscles of the PSX, but it's ridiculous to have to sit through a two minute summon spell. That said, it is still a great game. To me, the story is what makes this game.marurun wrote:I've tried to play it a couple times and I always lose interest shortly after the Golden Saucer. The story just isn't compelling enough, some of the attacks and magics take too long to play out, and none of the enemies seem to have any ecology at all.
I haven't played Tactics before, but I've heard things similar to what's been stated on here. Too bad that Square RPGs from the PSX era are so damned expensive.
That reminds me of a story a friend told me where he used the Knights of the Round/Mime trick to duplicate it about eight times or so while fighting Ruby WEAPON. Apparently in the middle of it, he got up and made himself a sandwich, got a glass of milk, and returned to the console right about the time it finished.
Tactics is excellent, though the issues with translations and variable text speeds did detract from the experience. To compound matters, the two strategy guides released for the game also suffered from problems, the official Bradygames guide falling apart due to cheap glue, while the Prima guide was utter garbage, misspelling character names, mixing up who was in what battle, and even getting battles in the wrong order.
Ulimately, I'd have to say the 2D RPGs of the FF series were my favorites. The 3D ones just don't cut it for me.
