gave me a great deal on a JVC X'Eye with non-working CD drive. After doing a little bit of research on what makes these CD drives crap out, it dawned on me that I could probably just fix it with a tiny piece of duct tape. About five minutes later, it turned out I was correct. :)

Wow! That easy, huh? Now I'm equipped if my other unit craps out. Were you able to find an appropriate power brick?

I didn't wanna say anything and start another war, but I bought the one from Amazon that everybody argued about in crooooow!'s thread about buying broken CDX's. So far, works great. Came with swappable female plugs, and the option to set it to 9.5v.

At any rate yeah, I did some research on broken X'Eyes it seemed a common issue was that the piece that told the unit that the CD drive was open would get worn and then always think it was open so it would never boot. There were guides on how to solder in a wire that would trick it, so I was ready to give that a try. I had all my tools laid out, and opened the X'Eye up and when I found the little door-is-open trigger it reminded me of the tissue/tape mod for slim PS2's so that you can flip the top and the PS2 still thinks that the drive is closed. With that in mind I said to myself, "y'know what? I bet I can just tape this fucker down and call it a day!" And to my delight... yup.
