Use Sega 1602-18 (Mega Drive 1) power adapter with PAL NES?

Post by sfgsgvs »

Will it work? I know NES uses AC, but I just need something to test the unit with before I buy it. I've read that DC is fine, but will the plug and voltage etc fit? It's rated 10V 1.2A Center negative, I don't know the size of the plug. So if someone knows or have both an NES and a Sega 1602-18 to test it out it would be great.

I'm in Europe, so both the NES and power adapter are PAL. I already know the official specs for the NES adapter, I need to know if it works "unofficially". There are conflicting reports on the net, so I would like to know from someone with first hand experience.

Sorry mate, couldn't tell you if it will or won't. I only have Australian model 2 mega drives so I have no adapters to test with. If the voltages and currents are the same and they are both AC (I'm guessing the European NES is the same as the Australian one) I see no reason it shouldn't.

Wish I could be more help :)

Not sure about the specs for the PAL consoles, but there's all those multi game AC adapters on eBay, I have one myself. They work with model 1 Genesis and NES (same plug with the same specs).

From what I understand, the NES takes in an AC (which is why you shouldn't use your NES adapter on any other console) so I'm guessing if you feed it a DC the NES can handle that. At least, that's what you're doing with the plug I linked above. The one I have, I never tried with my NES.

Yeah, feeding a US NES DC ala a Gen brick is fine. However he's in the EU somewhere, so he was mostly asking about the plug size I believe.
