etrian 1 DS progression?

Post by geozeldadude »

when i first started playing etrian odyssey i got really into it and obsessively finished the first 3 floors or so. but then as my crew got levelled up and it got easier, floors 4 and 5 were more repetitive and slow, although the boss battle at the end of floor 5 was fun. floor 6 has a sudden jump in difficulty so it's more interesting, but there's not enough that's different to keep me much engaged. so my question is: does the game throw in any surprises for the following 24 floors or if i'm not still interested now i won't really have much motivation for finishing the game? i enjoyed the game enough that i would probably look into the 3rd game, although it sounds like the 2nd game is pretty similar to the first.

There is some backtracking to get to parts of the floor you couldn't before, and the story starts to kick in as you go forward. It's presented pretty well; they give you bits and pieces as you go along but you never find out the real mystery til the end, at which point it's a pretty big "whoa'. The difficulty also keeps going up as you get deeper; you won't just be able to auto attack your way through.

If I recall right the main stuff kicks in late stratum 2/early stratum 3.
