I think I felt the same way until about 2 mins ago. I watched a video of Ivo playing, and he got a score that he hasn't submitted to the thread yet, but it's.... really impressive guys. And watching this video made it quite clear to me that luck is minimal.
I agree. At first I thought it was allot of luck involved with the game...but after playing it for a bit, I started picking up new tricks to manage the columns and score better. My scores have been pretty consistent compared to my level of skill at the time.
the video I sent shows I did not use save states and should demonstrate the speed of the emulator, which I can only guess is at 100% compared to a real PS1.
I don't care *that much* about Twin Galaxies but I guess some of you guys do and as I wouldn't mind, I've looked at getting a legit copy. I'm thinking of getting a PC CD-ROM version to play "legit" as I could not find any PAL copies of PS1 on Ebay. The PC version appears to be similar to the Jaguar in having a larger playing field on the horizontal lines, as I said earlier I'm not sure if that is all upside as it may be trickier to get 10k clears (but considering the highest TG score is Jaguar probably it turns out that larger is overall better).
I don't have a real SNES or Megadrive and my (PAL) PS1 is stored at a different city, but I'll see if I collect it in case I spot a PAL copy.

I was wondering about that, should have checked. I'll look up some info on the PC CD-ROM version. I asked YoshiEgg25 and Twin Galaxies does track scores for the PC version. It may be a DOS game or legacy Windows game that won't run without tricks on a modern machine, so what counts as running on "original hardware" for Twin Galaxies in such a case? It would suck to buy the game and not get the score to count.
Unfortunately my emulator, Visual Boy Advance, just now started automatically assigning colors to Zoop for Game boy and is now essentially unplayable. Been toggling with options and nothing is working. Don't know why it all of a sudden did the switcheroo on me. I really thought the Game Boy port was pretty solid but it needs to be played on an actual Game Boy or emulator that is only using Game Boy colors. Colorization does not help this version.
In case anybody is wondering or even remembers me, I've been absent because I've moved to Beijing for a stint and wasn't able to access racketboy because it was blocked by the Great Firewall of China. I eventually got a VPN but soon after the message boards were blocking me saying I was a spammer. I just tried again a couple of days ago and it let me back in. Greetings!
Has anybody beaten 6,000 on Zoop for Game Boy? That's my high score.

The world record is 13,440.
Gaming accomplishments: Nibbler (marathon): 251,169,160 / Nibbler (one life): 5,263,360 (WR) Donkey Kong: 423,100 [L12-1] (150th place as of 2019-01-15) Super Smash Bros. (N64): Ranked top 5 in Wisconsin from Q1 2016 to Q2 2017 Shrek SuperSlam: won largest tournament in game's history (Shrekfest 2018)
I didn't submit it yet so that it wouldn't demoralize anyone from trying, but I guess that is not working anyway.
I got 405600 on the PS1 and was recording it this time.
I'm thinking of stopping there.
I think I could improve score as I usually survive until level 8 and I died in level 7 (but maybe I was playing too risky).
I believe I could break 500k with some more weeks of practice, but who knows.
600k I still feel may be possible but it would possibly require months, is not guaranteed (level 10 onwards is a pain), and I have other games I want to play!
