BradyGames/Prima
Re: BradyGames/Prima
Some guides are worth owning for the art alone, like the Super Metroid one.
Re: BradyGames/Prima
I love love love Brady guides. KOFXII and MvC3 had some incredible guides, I still pop them out and read every now and then.
I weep weep weep when a game I'm looking forward to has a guide written by Prima. The SF4 guide was complete and utter shite, and judging by this review, the guide for Mortal Kombat was even worse.

Re: BradyGames/Prima
That does look terrible. Were Prima the ones back in the day that often never included maps and such? I thought it was Brady though, like one of the DKC guides is coming to mind... it was just screenshots and no maps.
Re: BradyGames/Prima
I'm kinda bummed there never was a guide for 3D Dot Game Heroes, so I'm making one. Once I'm done putting all the screen shots together and everything, I'm going to take it to Kinko's and have them print it on some nice paper and then have it bound together. Just have to finish formatting and then design a cover.
Yes I'm aware that I could just look up online guides, but I prefer having a physical guide just as I prefer actual games to digital downloads, and it's just my obsessive nature.

I don't know much about Brady and Prima, but I have gotten in to collecting Japanese guide books lately. I know about Gamefaqs and use it often but there is something really nice about having it all in a book right next to you on the couch. Colorful artwork and nice presentation help too.
We all know that video games depreciate in value, generally speaking. Guide books seem to hold their value very well. I could even argue that their value only goes up.

No kidding. Check out how much the official Zelda: LttP is going for. I'm lucky that I still have mine. It's in great condition and even still has the big fold-out map that came with it.

I used to sell the Japanese Silent Hill 3 guide for up to 80 bucks on ebay. I didn't gouge, I would start the auction at 0.99 with no reserve. The damn guide cost 500 yen at the used book stores. I had no idea guide books could be worth so much. It was a complete accident that I discovered this. After that I must have bought every Silent Hill 3 guide in my area and sold them all.

Re: BradyGames/Prima
I used to have a Pokemon Red strategy guide from Prima, which had terrible formatting and incorrectly named attacks and mixed up enemy rosters/pokemon locations. I annotated it a lot. I also had one for Final Fantasy Tactics Advance that was well-used and annotated.
