That link in my post to Amazon had a headset for like $25. I'd get that if I were you OP.

Thanks Stark, that is the gameplan. That is cheaper than the other ways, and I get a backup headset.

I've not heard anything about the wireless receivers causing problems. I've got one, and it works perfectly.

What MS did seem to pull was selling the adapter all by itself, which is why you'll only find them available brownbox, and not from major stores. Presumably, the retailer is taking this and selling the receiver and controller separately.

That said, one caveat with using the 360 controller on Windows in general is that the official drivers will only work exactly as expected if the games officially support the 360 controller (which is often the case for newer games). If you have an older game, or one that only has generic support, then you'll need third party drivers to get the triggers working as buttons and so on.

Utilizing a program like Joy2Key, PPjoy, or xpadder was expected. Anytime you use a controller adapter you run into those issues. Granted I need alot more experience with any/all of them.

Aye. Though, the experience with software that directly supports the controllers is seamless. Like, offhand, I've got Darksiders and Burnout Paradise on Steam - start the games up, and the controller works exactly like it would on a 360, with zero configuration.

And it's win-win at that point, right? PC graphics with console ease of controls :D

The 360 controller doesn't map triggers as you'd expect. The left and right triggers are just one potentiometer. So a 256 value range is split between the two triggers 0-127 for the left trigger and 128-256 on the right trigger. This completely baffles old PC games with analogue trigger support.

Yes, htat always confused the heck out of me. I usually use Joy2Key or Xpadder if I need to, but I never understood how COD was able to register both the ADS (AimDownSights) and fire if the potentiometer just recenters if both triggers are equally depressed.
