I just bought the DVD for Kaichou wa Maid-Sama.
I'm curious, to the other people here who watch anime, what's sort of your ratio to watching anime online and actually buying the DVD's of it? Which do you prefer?
For me only very recently I've been having less and less time available to watch anime online and have started trying to buy the DVD's for the more promising looking anime. I'm kind of using it as an excuse to start an anime collection that will one day hopefully match my video game collection.

I prefer hard copies. Haven't watched an anime online in a long time, actually. However, I've been doing mostly just Blu-Rays as opposed to DVDs. The difference is like night and day.
I might need to get rid of some of my DVDs, actually. The only ones I plan to keep are the ones that will never jump to Blu-Ray. (ADV was my life, son.)

Personally, I just have a large harddrive filled with fansubs. I treat my anime the same way I treat my US cartoons.

I usually just download, watch, then delete. Saves room. There are very few series I want to watch more than once, and those I buy.MrPopo wrote:Good series.MrEco wrote:I just bought the DVD for Kaichou wa Maid-Sama.

Is the difference between DVD and Blu-ray perhaps larger with anime than other types of visual media or something? Because I'v seen only a couple of regular Blu-ray movies and they were definitely better looking but it wasn't by a huge amount. Also I've seen Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children on DVD and on Blu-ray and it looked exactly the same to me in both formats.the7k wrote:I prefer hard copies. It really depends on the show. If it was a digital show made for SD, then a Blu Ray will just be an upconversion and will look only slightly better. If it was a show made on film made before the switch to digital, then they are usually remastered and will look great. And of course if it's something new in HD then it would look fantastic on Blu Ray.MrEco wrote:Is the difference between DVD and Blu-ray perhaps larger with anime than other types of visual media or something? Watch Paprika. There are other fine examples (Evangelion 1.11), but Paprika blew me away when I first saw it on Blu-Ray. Maybe it was just because it was the first anime I saw on Blu-Ray. However, while movies like Die Hard 4 and Transformers only looked marginally different on Blu-Ray compared to DVD, anime (and just animation in general) seems to benefit so much more from being in HD.MrEco wrote:Is the difference between DVD and Blu-ray perhaps larger with anime than other types of visual media or something? Worth mentioning that a studio upconversion of an SD show is going to look better than any real time upconverter.Betamax001 wrote:It really depends on the show.
