microSD problem

Post by nick944 »

I have a A-data 1GB microSD for my CycloDS Evolution. I tried out WabbitDS (TI-83 emulator) on it and it crashed. So when I start it back up I get a message to format the microSD. When I try I get an error saying Windows can't format it... It has a warranty from Newegg and A-data's lifetime warranty, but I'm hoping this is just something simple.

Hmhmhmm, I had a problem like this before. Dont format. See if you can get to the contents on something else that uses Mircro like phone or camera and if that wont read it, its most likely dead.

Nope, it says I need to format it, and I tried it in my Wii and it won't work at all. So is there no way to fix/repair it without getting a replacement?

I tried it with my Camera (with the a-data adapter) and it recognized it and asked if I wanted to format it, I tried but it just started flashing card error.

Erm yes they do...

My Transflash micro sd works with an adaptor in my Wii. I've got both 1gb and 2gb for my N95 and I play pics from my phone on the Wii all the time.

On topic:

Try a linux live cd. Knoppix is very small, you can even get it to work on a usb drive. Try it in there. If it still doesn't work try a data recovery tool. If it still won't read it then i suggest trying to format it in Linux. For some reason i've always found linux to be a bit more robust when it comes to accessing memory on dodgy drives. I've recovered several usb drives/sd cards/mmc/hdd using linux.

Dodgy adaptor? They all should work. It should be completely transparent to the Wii thats the point of the adaptor.

I have Xubuntu 7.10 on one of my computers, but it doesn't seem to recognize the USB adapter that came with the Cyclo and that computer does not have a SD card reader. I'll try the live CD of Xubuntu on my main computer soon. I told newegg the problem, and instead of the normal RMA process of sending it in and getting a new one, they offered to just send a new one free of charge and let me keep the old one!
