No matter what any of us say, the first Playstation is not the PSX. It was merely a codename used prior to release. The PSX is the PSX. Justify it all you want, but it is simply wrong.
If many people are wrong about something, it doesn't change the fact that they are wrong. That's all I have to say about that. You can all decide if you want to use correct names or not. I'm sick of these kinds of stupid arguments.

Yeah, you're right, in a way. Everything was much simpler before Sony made the real PSX. I remember magazines threw around that word -PSX- a lot back in the days the Playstation was popular. It kinda got stuck in my head, and I think it sounds nicer / cooler than PS or PS1. I think most people that use the term PSX feel the same way. I don't think many people really mean PSX when they say PSX. In fact, most people probably don't even know there is a 'real' PSX... lolInazuma wrote:No matter what any of us say, the first Playstation is not the PSX. You might be a Racketboy member if you know what a real PSX is...

Hey... I wasn't trying to argue. I'm aware that the original PlayStation isn't *IN FACT* the PSX. I was just saying it makes sense, to me, to address it as so.Inazuma wrote:No matter what any of us say, the first Playstation is not the PSX. It was merely a codename used prior to release. Re: Buying a PSX and a PS2
If you can find it or have some extra money, do find the psone plus the official screen. It actually very good for me if I want to play a game but don't want to disturb someone who need to watch TV. If you just want to stick into the TV, I would get the Psone slim.
Video of the psone with the screen
As for the ps2, get the newer Ps2 slim only if you want to play games you bought. If you want to play mod game, get the Fat ps2 plus the hard drive and the adapter and the mod program to get it working.

The real psx is a pretty obscure device anyhow. If someone's going to discuss the actual PSX dvr, it's pretty much guaranteed that they're going to specify that they aren't talking about the ps1.

Re: Buying a PSX and a PS2
So, has anyone gotten this guy closer to getting a Playstation and a Playstation 2?
Do like I did, get a original run US Playstation and a psone, remove the psone's cd drive make a very minor mod to Playstation case and install the psone cd drive into the Playstation. You keep all ports and have The original Playstation that does not skip when playing FMV.
You can still use a Gameshark, and it will even boot NTSC-J games depending on if you want to swap or use Gameshark (depends which version of Gamshark you have)
I also have a s-video cable for my Playstation and use that with my crt tv to get better picture quality. When using it on my HD tv the games do not look as good.
I am not sure what it's called but the shadowing when a player takes a hit and blinks you just see a lighter character with lines in them on HD tv and with the crt tv they blink and the shadowing looks better instead of getting a checkerboard effect.

Comb effect, also called combing effect or combing...darth_blunted wrote:I am not sure what it's called but the shadowing when a player takes a hit and blinks you just see a lighter character with lines in them on HD tv and with the crt tv they blink and the shadowing looks better instead of getting a checkerboard effect.
It's the result of fast moving images + interlacing as can be seen on this picture:

Most Philips TV's for one suffer hugely from this because they don't process the image very well.
Philips was king of CRT, but they suck at Plasma and LCD...
