Smallville: The Final Episode and Memories ***SPOILERS***

Post by BurningDoom »

Smallville. 10 seasons. The only other scripted show that I remember from recent memory that lasted that long was Stargate SG-1 (well, Doctor Who too, if your British). So love it or hate it, it was successful. The show has had it's high moments, and it's low moments. The 2-hour first episode was amazing, and a love-letter to Richard Donner's Superman movies in many of the scenes. But most of the other episodes those first couple of season were pretty bland and boring, and was far too full of stupid teen-drama crap. It was about Season 3 that it really started getting good, and the storylines started steering away from teen romance as much more into the realm of comic books and fantasy. The more the show went on, the better that got.

I especially enjoyed the guest-star episodes: The Martian Manhunter episode, The Justice League episode, the Legion of Super-Heroes episode, and especially the Justice Society of America episode. Also the Season 3 (or maybe it was Season 4) finale was AWESOME! That was the one where there was another meteor shower in Smallville and Kryptonian ships were landing in the midst of it. At the same time, Lana's boyfriend was going all Serial Killer on Clark's family, and Clark discovers The Fortress of Solitude.

As for the final episode itself, I thought it sucked. They tried to cram too much into one episode, even if it was a 2-hour episode. They had an entire season, since episode 1 of this season they knew it was their last season. Not many shows actually get that kind of opportunity. And they blew it. They could have stretched a few of the things out that happened in this episode into the season and the storylines would have worked MUCH better.

1. Lex Luthor returns and he kills Tess for no apparant reason other than her being there. And he loses his memory because why? It's not like there's gonna be another season to explore this storyline. WTF?!

2. Superman defeats the great and mighty Darkseid with one attack..ONE ATTACK!

3. Superman stops Apokolips, a planet full of evil Gods and their dark minions with nothing more than quick push? COME ON!

4. Green Arrow takes out 3 Gods with 3 arrows...really? I know he's Green Arrow, but they're freaking GODS!

However, seeing the suit and Clark fly was cool, even if it wasn't for all that long. And I was happy to hear the John Williams' Superman theme at the end.

Anyone else want to share memories/opinions about the show and the final episode?

Good riddance, Smallville never lived up to its potential and was one of the laziest shows on tv. I was a fan of it at one time, but it become clear that the people behind it had no ambition

I didn't see the final episode, but it doesn't surprise me that it didn't deliver any memorable action. That's the Smallville I remember, couldn't deliver a good action sequence to save its life. The fact that it's the only comic book show in like the last decade to be successful is a sad statement on the state of comic book shows in general. Way to drop the ball Heroes, though part of me was happy to see Heroes fail so miserably as I got tired of hearing Heroes fans bash Lost constantly back during Heroes' successful first season.

I wanted to like Smallville but there was such lost potential, so many generic plots and forced characters that led nowhere. You had that guy (Pete it was?) selling merchandise in every ocassion.

It was simply wasted potential. I remember everyone tought the premise was cool but it didn't live to the expectations.

I was ok with the ending, and the little bit of "Superman" we got. The parting shot with Clark opening his shirt was cool. Even if the finale was mostly wasted on Clark/Lois going on and on and on and on and on and on about their wedding AND THEY DONT EVEN GET MARRIED FOR SEVEN MORE YEARS, it was STILL better than the awful cop-out ending to Lost.

I liked it for the first few seasons, then it just got old for me.

Also Friends lasted 10 seasons (and kept it up the whole time).

Normally, I would punch someone for even comparing Smallville to an amazing show like Lost but you know what? Lost's finale really was pretty lame. They basically did something they said they would never do on the show and they saved all of the big answers for the DVD-only epilogue. Very dissapointing

Kind of funny, but the WWE likes to brag about Monday Night Raw being the longest running show on tv. Course, it's silly to compare pro-wrestling to regular tv shows. Though technically, it IS scripted, they DO have writers, they DO have storylines and the wrestlers DO try to act. It's a silly comparison though, and I say that as a wrestling fan

I think Doctor Who is the longest scripted tv show if we count non-American programs. It's actually one of the things I love about Doctor Who. You have to be in awe at the enormity of that show's continuity and mythos. I mean you have a character whose story has been getting told since 1963. That's before I was born and sometimes I think of that when I am watching a new episode and it inspires awe and respect in me. It is kind of fascinating to talk to a Who fan who is older than you and just discuss how much the character has changed and evolved over time

I havent seen the series finale yet of smallville. tho it sounds like I shouldnt.
I knew they were going to rush it. Its too bad really.
Does it even explain how Green Arrow got out of Darkseid grasp with that Omega symbol on his head?

VGM out...

Lost started out strong. 1st season is phenomenal TV. After that, it went to utter and complete shit. Here's a breakdown:

Season 2: Garbage
Season 3: Garbage - an entire episode was devoted to a tattoo and it's 'meaning.' - Not joking.
First half of Season 4: Garbage
Second half of Season 4: Some decent episodes
Season 5: meh, take it or leave it.
Season 6 started out half decent but then just went to shit about halfway in.
Series Finale: A joke/insult to fans of the show. Total cop-out.

The best thing to do with Lost is watch Season 1 and after that, draw your own conclusion or write your own ending. I GUARANTEE it will be better than the rest of the show. It was awful. Absolutely awful.

As for your question about Arrow: Yes. Clark 'talks him out of it'. lulz
