My tiny collection..

A few years ago I sold every video game I owned for 1000 dollars. I feel the collection was worth a little bit more, but it was by no means great. The past few months I have been trying to restart my collection, and I have been decently successful for the limited money I have to spend on it. This is what I have thusfar.

A Dreamcast
-1 controller
-1 VMU
-Grandia II

A Super Nintendo
-1 controller
-Super Mario World 2

2 NES
-2 controllers
-like 20 games, nothing spectacular

1 N64 (this is what im currently focusing on)
-1 controller
-6 games-Rogue Squadron,Flying Dragon, WWF No Mercy, WCW/NWO Revenge, Glover,Tony Hawk Pro Skater

1 Sega Genesis
-1 controller

1 GBA


Thats it so far, tiny I know, as I said, this is a restart from a previously larger collection. Any thoughts, or tips on how to grow my collection for cheap?

Check out eBay for good lots, visit thrift stores, and scan Craigslist every so often. Just run searches for "sega", "nintendo", etc. You can find some really great deals through Craigslist.

To expand upon this...

Yard/garage sales. Flea markets. Pawn shops. Sometimes Goodwill.

Well, I guess I just have cruddy PawnShops/Flea Markets etc. Prices for retro games around here (Mid South)

Most pawn shops here really dont have retro games, and when they do, they want 6 to 10 bucks for the game no matter what condition it is (usually 4 out of 10.)

Most flea markets here seem to only have xbox games. When I find anything older it seems to be around ten bucks. I think thats mainly because the people running them are all older and maybe not informed on reasonable prices for older games, equating them with the prices of todays games.

There are a few stores here that sell retro games, usually at a rate of 5 dollars a peice, with rarer games costing up to 25. Thats where I get most of my stuff but Im looking to buy in "bulk" for cheaper.


and Craigslist for Little Rock is a joke. XD People try to sell N64's for 50 and 60 bucks.

90% of my Sega Genesis stuff came from Goodwill and flea markets. I'd recommend that.

Just wanted to add that THIS place has a great Buy/Sell/Trade community. Just about everyone here sells their games and systems at fair prices.

When you have a small collection like this, a great way to get a decent selection of games quick is to look for game lots. You can often build a decent collection fast this way, and then focus on those certain pricey items.

Do you have any thrift stores in your area? Those places can be goldmines for collectors...

That was like my collection before I started. All I did was hit up the local thrift stores / swap meets on the weekend. Snagging the deals on craigslist. I picked up a ton of my sega at a retro gaming event. Prices are usually pretty reasonable to get a foundation.

Got a good start.
