retro gaming magazine reccomendations?

Post by grittykitty »

after having recovered some old gaming magazines from my youth, i'm craving more! i'm hoping everyone can tell me some good specific issues of magazines to look for. i'm especially interested in the following:

- year-end best of lists circa 1991-1998 (especially EGM)
- sega-specific magazines (especially saturn)
- articles about weird/rare game not released outside of japan (written in english)
- must-have issues of recent retro-specific magazines (like retro gamer magazine)

any issue #s and details of what's so interesting about it would be greatly appreciated :)

I have the first 5 or 6 issues of Sega Visions, but this was way before the Saturn was even an idea. I have a large storage bin full of EGMs from 1990 til about 1996, I am just too lazy to dig em out.

When I am feeling motivated, I'll chime into this thread again with more details.

-Sega Visions
-Official Dreamcast Magazine

And no request for Nintendo Power? If you haven't seen the early issues, then check them out. Now they're like any other gaming magazine, but focused on Nintendo Products. Back in the late 80s/early 90s you'd get full walkthroughs and secrets on games. And awesome posters!

Just buy the EGM holiday game buyer's guide for each year you are interested in. Nice overview of each system, its best games, awards, and even strategy guides sometimes.
