Just got my copy yesterday and have been squeezing in a little play time between shifts. I am only up to the cave but I'm really enjoying it. I have been doing a little grinding as well.

When do you guys use gather?

I tend to use gather if I want to get through some fights quick and there are alot of opponents. First round I select gather for all the characters, second round, I send all the gather to the character Im going to cast a spell with that can hit multiple opponents.

Im sure there are also multiple and different instances you can use gather for. Gather affects healing power, physical attack power, etc.

Alrighty I have been playing a lot of this game lately. Storyline is definitely nothing to write home about so far, unless it has some crazy twists at the end. The storyline seems to just exist because it has to. Still, the characters are decent though they do fit the typical roles often occupied in these kinds of RPGs. Dialogue can be a little lengthy at times but it has some funny stuff in it too.

Now the bright and detailed graphics make this game stand out to me personally. Everything looks pretty awesome, especially the areas themselves. Character sprites are a little small, would have liked to see them bigger, but it's alright. LOVE the anime-style cutscenes! Great stuff. A lot of the enemy designs are pretty good too, though there is a tremendous amount of recycling and simple recoloring of enemies. Sad. But again, animations are good and every enemy has a quick dying animation when they fade away, and I thought that was a nice touch.

Music is great too, and I don't even have the enhanced CD. Seriously some good stuff. Nothing to complain about here. I like the battle theme too, which is important to me personally since I battle so damn much in RPGs.

For the fighting and leveling system themselves, I have mixed feelings. I love the gather element, I think it adds a lot of strategy. Leveling up is pretty simple. At the beginning I noticed a sort of imbalance in the difficulty of enemies vs. the experience given. Some parts and some enemies are way too easy or way too hard for where they are found, but I have to admit that every difficult boss or area only made me want to try that much harder to beat it. It felt so good when I actually did pass those parts. So I guess you could say it is not so hard or so unfair at times that you feel like giving up. Sometimes enemies don't seem to give enough money to meet all your financial needs either. Love the spellbook element, and how many secret items there seem to be. Also on a small note, there are way too many healing items that do the same exact things, but take up separate slots in your precious precious inventory. You will fill it up pretty quick. AND FOR THE LOVE OF GOD KEEP LOTS OF HEALING AND MP-RESTORING ITEMS IN YOUR INVENTORY. You will need them. Oh you will need them.

I could go on more, but I got some stuff to take care of today before work. Overall, the game is pretty rad. I enjoy seeing what comes next, and leveling up is pretty cool . It is especially fun when you get the spell that allows your whole party to have 1 gather each at the start of any fight. Awwwwww yeah! 8) So yeah not that original, not perfect, not revolutionary, but definitely good and challenging, and it does feel rewarding. The guys at Watermelon did a superb job. Totally worth the money. :D

The ending is my favorite ending to a game or movie period!
I love the ending. I wasn't expecting it and now I look at "good vs evil" style stories (movies, games, comics, etc) in a different light because of Pier Solar.

I have not gotten to play this as much as I have wanted to because of my work schedule and I am planning my wedding. I finally got to sit down and play last night until I reached the canyon and was having a tough time. What level would you recommend my characters being to handle the enemies there?

I've just recently made it through there. You can try to power through the first canyon, because you get another party member at the end of it which really helps when dealing with enemies. You also get access to a house that lets you heal any time, which is good for grinding. As far as grinding is concerned, I only went up 1 level in the dungeon after the canyons and got obliterated by the tougher enemies, so you might want to grind 2 or 3 levels for starters (that's my plan anyway).
