LCD TV's as computer monitors?

Post by noiseredux »

so as some of you may know, I do a lot of gaming on my LCD VGA. It's not the best picture quality for newer systems, but I use it out of convenience (IE: I can play games all night without hogging the TV; I can play games WHILE I have the TV on in the same room as me; etc).

ANYWAY, I got to thinking that I've noticed a lot of newer LCD TV's actually have a VGA input on them. How do PC's look on a TV via this route? Do you think my next computer monitor should just be a TV?

They look fine from a distance. The color reproduction on entry level HDTV's is pretty abysmal compared to a mid range computer monitor however. Not to mention the clarity a monitor has over a TV. For gaming its fine. For reading text and anything else... Use a computer monitor.

In this day an age though you really should be using DVI or HDMI from your computer. DVI to HDMI converters are cheap... essentially the same signal, minus the audio.

ok man, maybe you misunderstand my real question. I'm going with one or the other. Should I (A) continue using VGA monitor for PC and for gaming (which means component quality) or should I switch to (B) LCD TV for both PC and gaming?

it is doable, but like the others said, ill advised. Heavy reading online on it always produces a headache.

However Left 4 Dead 2 at 32 inches is far superior to the 15 I was playing at before.

I was planning to replace my 15" VGA with a 15"-19" TV.

I wish I could just see a PC running on one of these so I know with my own eyes how it looks. I mean, some people are more bothered my A/V shit than others.

I've considered using my 46" LCD as my main computer monitor but haven't ever tried it.

I should hook it up and see how it looks later today.

Aint that the truth. If you have access to a netbook, you could take it into the store and test the tvs. Most big box stores that arent walmart are ok with this.
