Hey guys, so I'm moving to LA next week. Got me a job programming out there and I am all amped to get the hell out of Florida (though Cali is just another FL with mountains).
Wondering what to expect when I get there. Anyone here from the area?

I lived in Pasadena for a couple of years. I loved it. I commuted to downtown LA twice every day and the traffic isn't so bad as long as you expect it. I found drivers there to be pretty good, not too aggressive. Lots of stuff to see and do. Buy a nice car for sure, that's the only way to get around.

What part of LA?
Either way, it is some of the worst traffic in the country.
Although, possibly not quite as much stop-and-go as the Bay Area.
LA is more of just frantic traffic.
I would also plan on renting for a while until you a really sure you want to stay.
Even though home prices are coming down, I think they still have a while to go.
Best of luck in your adventure!

There are tons of awesome vegetarian resturants in LA, if you're into that sorta thing. There's some really cool bars, thrift stores and flea markets. I really like the Melrose area around La Brea. But it's super crowded, people are generally pretty rude, and like most people said, the traffic is horrible. Fun place to visit, but hard to live there. Oh yeah, its expensive. It's like 12 bucks to see a movie, and unless you get lucky it cost to park too!!! you even have to pay to park at the damn mall....I don't know why you'd go there anyway. I don't mean to sound too negative, casue i do kinda like LA. Anyway....if you like food, lots of different culture, music, film, and art you'll probaby have some fun there.
just got back from hollywood (was home for spring break)... i'm based in orange county though; and i must say in my opinion, cali isn't just another FL with mountains. waves, food, fashion, music, and medically legalized herbals are some thing just off the top of my head. good luck with your movethough Cali is just another FL with mountains
