It's very good. There were a couple of tough missions and it was a pretty nice game.

The expansion pack has some cruel missions, but that is usually the case with expansion packs for PC games given the target audience (some of which is veterans of the original game).

thanks for all the suggestions guys. I started playing Mechwarrior 4 and I'm enjoying the crap out of it so far. Crysis looks awesome.

I was unaware that Independence War was a flight sim - I always thought it was just a bad ID4 tie in game.

Im glad you enjoy Mechwarrior. If you ever want to become a real enthusiast, you can buy a tesla 2 pod. But thats really overkill for most people - eventhough they are really really fun.

fastbilly gave you the best answer you could hope for.

The only thing I have left to add is Dogfighter on Steam:

Also, Star Wars: Star Fighter is ok with a joystick, though a little difficult to control. It's at least something easy to find for little money these days.

GoG games that are better with a stick:
Descent 1&2 - http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/descent_1_descent_2
Descent 3 - http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/descent_3_expansion
Freespace - http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/freespace_expansion
Freespace 2 - http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/freespace_2
IL2 Sturmovik - http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/il_2_sturmovik_1946
Red Baron - http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/red_baron_pack

Two I havent tested since they are helicopter games:

http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/comanche_vs_hokum

And two free Mechgames - just know there is a heavy learning curve but once you get it it is awesome:
Mechwarrior 4 - http://www.mektek.net/projects/mw4/
Mechwarrior 2.5/Assault tech - http://www.mektek.net/projects/at1/promo/

But if you really want a good experience, go buy Crysis or Crysis Warhead and install Mechwarrior Living Legends:

Brilliant, thanks. I grabbed Crysis not two days ago and I wasn't even thinking about Living Legends.

I haven't used a standard joystick in many years so I can't help with any new games. Back when I did use them I played dos games.

Descent was mentioned. I fully agree.
My most memorable game aside from that is Terminal Velocity. Both games give you great control through their winding tunnel areas and the satisfaction of using the trigger to take out enemies. I also remember playing Stunts and Comanche Maximum Overkill and enjoying the analog control vs digital.

I also highly recommend IL2 Wings of Prey on Steam during the next sale. I bought two copies with the DLC for $5ish a piece. The game is just arcadey enough to be fast, and just simulator enough that you need to know what you are doing. But once you get in the air, its all gravy.

I think I need to play Mechwarrior Living Legends. I have Crysis, but I wasn't really aware of this mod.
