Firefox 4 sucks (>_<)

Post by Inazuma »

I've been a long time user and supporter of the Firefox browser but after using version 4 for a few days now, I cannot fucking stand it. I downgraded back to 3.6.17 today.

The main complaint I have with 4 is the layout changes. Instead of having all of the basic navigation functions located in the same place (the left side of the browser), they split them up and spread them all over the place. I have no idea why they thought this was a good idea. Something as simple as going back a page and then refreshing it is a pain in the ass with Firefox 4, because the back and refresh buttons are far apart. And God forbid you want to go to the homepage. That button was moved all the way to the far right. Same deal with the bookmarked sites. Just horrid placement.

They also moved the tabs to the very top of the browser. This sucks too. Sure, it gives us a little bit more room to view web pages but it's hardly worth the added difficulty of having the tabs at the very top. It makes it harder for me to glance at my tabs, plus there is less space up there to show the names of the tabs.

They also moved or limited the places were certain right click menus appeared, which further upset me. I had difficulty doing simple things like bookmarking sites or moving back multiple pages at once. I also couldn't access one of my add-ons, even though it is supposed to be compatible with version 4.

What do you guys think? Do you actually like the idea of having the navigation controls spread apart? Is there something amazing about Firefox 4 that I'm not aware of?

I've avoided upgrading because I'm mostly heard negative things about version 4. As I recall, though, a friend of mine who is a web developer likes it because it has better support for something he uses, so I guess that means less headache for him.

I haven't tried it myself (I'm a happy Chrome user), but the refresh and back/forward seperation sounds irritating to me. On the other hand, some of the other things you didnt like were things I did like about Chrome - Like having tabs right at the top of the page, out of the way.

I don't understand the last complaint, what do you mean they limited the place where right click menus could appear :S?

Either way, I had my fill with Firefox a while back, I'm glad I moved to chrome.

I've been using Chrome for about half a year now, and have found it to be a better browser than even Firefox. The only thing that is tempting me about Firefox 4 is the Firefox Mobile Sync option, which lets you re-open the tabs you had open on your desktop on your phone. That seems like a great idea, and I am confounded why Google doesn't implement that into Chrome<->Android.

It seems that they tried to Chrome-ify Firefox. It's honestly pretty terrible right now.

I would just move to Chrome if it had StumbleUpon support and I could install my banks's plugins in it. I can't, they're only available for FF and IE. So, FF for now.

I've been using it for the past few days and I think I'll downgrade soon. I agree that the placement of the buttons is utter nonsense, it just feels deoptimized now. This especially applies to the "bookmarks" button being as far away from everything useful as possible. I used to like that back button that showed the last 10 pages or so you'd visited, but they got rid of it in 4. I usually try to stick with new things and give them a chance until I get used to them, but I'm struggling with finding a compelling reason to stick with 4 over 3.

I use a thumb button on my mouse or use ALT+LEFT ARROW to go back and I hit F5 on the keyboard as opposed to clicking the buttons most of the time. I never use the home button as I tend to keep tabs of frequently used pages up all the time. I do agree that moving the refresh to the right is ridiculous, especially for those who use it and have a large window. I wish they hadn't removed the status bar as well. I just found a plugin to restore it though. I have only installed FF4 on my work machine so far.

I LOVED chrome. Right until flash kept crashing in it. Tried reinstalling flash, chrome, you name it. Nothing. Moved to Firefox, and I hate it but it's better than nothing.

I used FF4 when it first came out, and realized quickly that there was no way I was going to like it. I switched to Chrome and haven't looked back. The only reason for me to use it now is for FireFTP, which is laid out much better than other FTP clients IMO.

Haha, and now the circle is complete.

Everyone else remember the 'Internet Explorer sucks' threads, use Firefox.
