Nightmare Creatures II for Dreamcast Help

So I just started Nightmare Creatures II for Dreamcast. Seems like there's really nothing more to it than mindless button-mashing beat-em up with a horror-theme. But despite being pretty good at button-mashing, I'm getting my butt kicked left and right. Is this game generally considered a difficult game? Am I doing it wrong or what? I'm running through this asylum (I think) with zombies all around. I get into fights and it seems I can't get through one without getting attacked at least once. And now I'm fighting these huge troll things that kick the crap out of me in 2 hits and there's more than just 1. There's got to be something I'm missing here.

yes this game sucks, i mean its just a port from psx and n64. They didnt really do much to make it better on the DC than just better frame rates. Honestly i do not consider this a true DC game.
Just compare the gameplay and graphics to a true DC and youll see the differ.

This is total crap not worth your time.
