What was the last movie you've seen?

Probably not fair to the movie, but true for me all the same.
I haven't seen Avatar yet, and for the very same reasons you mentioned.

To say more on topic, I watched the old Super Mario Brothers movie last week. I don't remember ever seeing it before, yet there's this nagging part of my brain that tells me otherwise. The Goomba's look strangely familiar to me :?

Anyway, the movie was as bad as I expected, but in a totally enjoyable way. A couple of sequences seemed to drag a bit and I didn't like how Yoshi looked or how it took so long for Mario and Luigi to get into their respected color-coded outfits. They also never ate a mushroom (Why Movie? :( ), which I was sort of expecting to happen. I DID like the walking bomb at the end and the very short appearance of a bullet bill (If I'd blinked, I'd have missed it). I also cracked up laughing every time the Goomba's started to dance. I have no idea why I found it so funny. I'm just glad I watched the movie late at night so nobody was awake to witness my giddy stupidity

Thor 8/10

Really enjoyed this more low key adaptation of the comic. Loved how they dealt with the Donald Blake persona.

Just a good old fashioned fun movie.

The Goombas remind me of the hulking aliens tasked with protecting the world in Fifth Element.

I think you mean that the Mondoshawan (those aliens in the Fifth element) remind you of the Goombas.

Yes, sorry. I was actually going to expand on my comment because I wonder if the crew of the Fifth Element purposely based the Mondoshawan on the Goombas. Maybe that's absurd...

Oh, let's see, since watching Ip Man, I've watched...

The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension
MST3K: The Beatniks
MST3K: The Incredibly Strange Creatures Who Stopped Living and Became Mixed-Up Zombies
Cat People
Hell Comes to Frogtown

We'll do it through a quick rundown.

Buckaroo Banzai - Genius.

The Beatniks - Crap, but still entertaining due to the MST3K crowd. It features a plot that's painfully obvious almost from the first ten minutes about a bad kid who tries going good, only to be pulled back down by his friends.

Mixed-Up Zombies - God this movie is terrible.

Cat People - I've heard considerable praise for Val Lewton's films over the years, and this was my first time watching one of his works. This movie is great, a suspenseful thriller with some incredible lighting and shadow work. Horror fans that like to see how the genre evolved should definitely check this one out.

Hell Comes to Frogtown - I laughed. Hard. It reminded me a lot of both Six-String Samurai and A Boy and His Dog. My girlfriend went into this film expecting to hate it and ended up adoring it for its tackiness by the end. If you like B-grade post-apocalyptic films like the two I mentioned, this is one worth watching.

I suppose I should spend less time on Badmovies.org...oh well.

Saw Thor - I give it a solid C. The worst of the good Marvel movies (that I've seen anyway), but far better than the awful Marvel movies.

The Kings Speech, I enjoyed it but not as much as everyone raved about it

I rewatched Goldfinger last night. Still my favorite 007 movie.

Dirty Harry: It was kind of interesting watching this movie after spending so much time complaining about police officers on another thread. I won't get into that here, though.

I had never seen Dirty Harry before but, given that it came out in 1971, I was expecting a film that didn't really live up to the hype and legacy it generated. I was wrong! It's still obviously an early seventies movie, but it holds up very well today. The villain's reign of terror reminded me a bit of the so-called "D.C. Sniper" situation back in 2002, though it is a bit humorous to hear his demand for $100,000. You can really see the influence of the Harry Callahan character through later action films. He's just a really cool, quiet character willing to do whatever he believes is necessary to achieve his version of justice. I could find little to criticize about the film. It's so good, though, that I'm rather hesitant to watch any of the sequels.
