Well-if anyone cares-the movie doesn't have universal acclaim but seems to have won over most critics and made 66 million. Here's a review from Pop Candy:
"I'll admit, going into Thor, I didn't know much about the Marvel hero except he wielded a big ol' hammer.
It turns out that was enough.
On Saturday I fell for the studly Son of Odin and the actor who plays him, Chris Hemsworth. I know some critics have wondered whether we're too saturated with comic-book movies this year -- Green Lantern, Captain America and Conan are also on tap this summer -- but if director Kenneth Branagh's latest is any indication, comic-based flicks are actually getting better.
Thor has a complicated tale to tell, but Branagh managed to balance the convuluted backstory with modern-day scenes very well, even if some of the dialogue fell on the corny side. (Fortunately, Natalie Portman can pull off two-word lines like "My research!" with aplomb.)
As we've learned in Iron Man, this genre is particularly entertaining if it doesn't take itself too seriously. For my buck, some of Thor's best moments were the lighter ones, like when the Mighty One's pals arrive on Earth in their Asgard outfits, or pretty much anytime the awesome Kat Dennings made a sarcastic observation.
The battle scenes? Great, and I could've watched them even longer. Thor's evil brother, Loki? Even creepier than he needed to be. Anthony Hopkins as Odin? Another bit of dead-on casting, since Sir Anthony seems too royal to play anything else nowadays.
If you've seen the movie -- and it landed at the top of the box office last weekend with $66 million -- I'd love to hear your thoughts. What did you like? What did you dislike? Did you stay through the credits for the "bonus scene" at the end?
Not only does Thor make me excited for a season of superhero movies, it has me psyched for a stellar summer season. Cap, the shield's in your court now."
I'll check it out. I don't care how many comic book movies they make as long as they are evolving and being done right. Frankly, I'm just happy to see one part of my geekiness(comic books) becoming a bit more socially accepted

Re: Saw Thor!
I was kinda bummed that the Infinity Gauntlet wasn't featured. At least I didn't even see it. I know the 'vault' had a few other relics other than the Casket, but I didn't recognize them, as I'm not super-familiar with Thor-lore. (tee hee).
I've actually seen the Gauntlet itself (or at least a picture thereof), it was on display at ComicCon last year, I think. And apparently it's supposed to be featured in the Avengers film along with the Cosmic Cube.
Maybe it will be on the Bluray.

Re: Saw Thor!
I enjoyed Thor. Im not a big fan of Thor but the movie wasnt that bad. While I was there, I saw a preview for the new X-Men movie, cant wait!
Also wait for the scene after the credits. It involves Samuel L. Jackson.

I was excited for Thor since the teaser In the Iron Man movie. Once I started seeing trailers I lost all interest. I haven't seen it yet and probably won't because of them. All I saw was some very painful slapstick comedy and implying some very bad romance.

It pains me to see these comic book movies are on the rise and are so successful. Guess we'll continue to see more of these half assed adaptations, lol...

Um, no? I didn't see any slapstick other than Thor getting hit by the truck twice (thus showing he wasn't godlike, so it had a purpose) and there wasn't any 'bad romance.' I think he kissed Amidala like once.
Wtf were you guys watching?
Re: Saw Thor!
I liked Thor...I've recently read the latest Run of Thor Comics (Siege is Epic) and the movie no where compares to them but all in all it made Asgard as believable as possible and I liked that Thor was brute on the battle field with a WWE-esque fighting style. The whole Jane Foster thing was bland and generic but that was the only bad thing I can say about the movie...well not the only thing 3D was completely worthless...but that's not a knock on the movie its a knock on Hollywood. It made me more anxious to see Capt America and the Avengers movie.
Re: Saw Thor!
Just seen it. I liked it. The parts on Earth were the best as they helped develop the young Thor. Not expecting anything helped a great deal. I'd recommend the movie to any of my friends easily.
