Depleted Uranium Ammunition

Post by johnblade »

The US military and NATO reject all the studies linking the use of Depleted Uranium weapons to increased rates in cancer and birth defects, in both our own troops and civilians living in war zones. Do you agree with the Military's claims?

Here's a video showing both sides:

If Depleted Uranium is safe, then why did Kuwait ship 6,700 TONs of sand contaminated with Depleted Uranium by the US military, all the way across the world to be buried in Idaho in 2008?

Here is the news article:

The alternative material to use would be tungsten - which has brings all kinds of problems on its own.

I'm betting that more incidences of cancer and birth defects are caused by the burning of fossil fuels. Got any stats on that?
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

I think there is more certainty that depleted uranium makes good armor piercing shells over the rest of uncertainties.

I think it isn't too radioactive (but I didn't check) but it probably is chemically poisonous. If you have access to the studies and care enough about it, read up on it (instead of watching videos).

If they are made out of depleted uranium, no wonder. Most people don't actually throw their mobiles at other people.

Uranium is not very radiactive (That's why it has such a long half life) , and depleted Uranium much less so, around the same as granite. Yes, granite.

Now, Uranium is toxic so you don't want to have it around. It's as toxic as lead so it makes sense to clean it.

Also blaming increased birth defects in depleted uranium while ignoring the burning oil, chemical weapons, and places where hosues are full of abstestos and lead is just wrong.

So yeah, nothing to worry here. You were just misinformed.

One can't always be safe when it comes to war. Risks must be taken. Uranium may not be safe, but it works.
